Allow programs to be run - 5/8/2001 15:20:00
IN FP. If you right click on your web and choose properties, there is an option that says: Allows programs to be run. My box was on. I turned it off. What exactly does this mean? If its on, does that mean that someone could open my DB files live off the internet from the host server?

Okay, I'm having a brain fart here and can't exactly recall what allow programs to run does. I think it allows scripts to run but I'm most likely wrong.

What I do know is that the checkbox 'allow files to be browsed' is what will allow your files to be downloaded over the web and that's what you generally want turned off on your fpdb folder or any other folder that has sensitive information that you don't want someone to be able to download over the net. The shopping cart we use alot is storefront. A problem it has is that people forget to disable browsing in their fpdb folder or atleast check to see that it is disabled. So then someone doing a search may stumble across it over the internet and download the database with all the credit card information and etc in it.

Lesson here is that really sensitive information should always be stored outside of the web root and in a folder not accessible via WWW.
