Can't import an MP3 to put on my site anymore? - 2/25/2004 20:24:29
I have successfully done this in the past. However today I tried importing one of my mp3's to my page and it said "An error occurred while accessing your FrontPage web files Webmasters- please see server's system log for details" Any ideas? Like I said I've done this in the past with no problems. Please help!

Quick steps would be to restart your computer and try it again. How did you try to import the mp3?

I have already tried to restart my computer. As far as how I did it... I opened up my web I selected Import under the File menu and browsed to select the file After that I pressed the OK button and got the message I earlier described I have used this same method in the past, don't know whats wrong...

Hmm. Try opening up frontpage, the copy the mp3, then paste it inside the web. See if that works.

Questions: 1. Are you opening the web locally or remotley? 2. How big is the mp3? 3. What version of FP are you using? 4. What do you want the mp3 to do, background music? streaming for users to listen to? Or just sit there like a lemon? Dan

1. I am opening the web locally 2. The MP3 is about 4 MB 3. I am using 98. 4. I use my mp3 page for writing purposes. Basically I post the mp3 on my web site and the other user can download it and continue work. So basically it just sits there. 5. I have done this in the past, and I have tried smaller mp3's (some that are smaller than already on the site) and nothing works. Are there somekind of limitations that I should be looking at? I can still import jpegs.

The file which is an .mp3 comes from my computer in my studio, which I burn to a CD and then load onto my other computer which I publish the web from. Like I said I have never had trouble before. I am doing everything locally because I don't know how or never have edited my web live. So I make changes and then republish. So bascially I cannot import an mp3 anymore into the File directory. I can't even paste it. However, I can still import a jpeg. Anymore ideas?

I can drag the file into the Web using windows explorer but it doesn't show up when I reopen Front Page. This is really starting to bug me. Maybe it's something with file limitation becasue I can import small things like .docs and small jpegs...at least I could last night. Any more ideas?

Did no-one think to ask the questions I did???? quote:
3. I am using 98 FP98 doesn't like mp3s, don't ask why, but it doesn't. It will take them, but they have to be under 3MB, pityful I know. What you should think about doing is dropping the bitrate a bit so that it is a smaller file. To keep the quality, don;t go any lower than 96kbps and 44100khz frequency, otherwise the quality will start to drop (even though CD's are at 64kbps). I like cooolsofts power convertor, try that, and then import into the web. If it still doesn't work, convert it to wma and try. HTH Dan

I can import mp3's that are under 1 MB. This makes no sense at all since I have 4 mp3 already on the site that are all bigger than 1 MB. So what happened between then and now. Would a newer version of Front Page work better, are there limitations with .mp3's? I don't think it is mp3's because it will not even import large .jpegs over 1 MB. Which again leads me to ask is there somewhere in FrontPage where file limitations are set?

Would it be worth upgrading to a newer version of Front Page. To be honest it does everything I need until now but if an upgrade would fix it them I would be willing. Where do check about upgrades for Front Page? What is the newest version?

I am having the exact problem as the original author. I have done only two things just before this problem occured: 1) Downloaded Napster to pay for songs... (Felt guilty) 2) Downloaded and updated most current microsoft explorer security... I have been creating mp3s for three years from Pastor's sermons and never had this problem until yesterday... I use XP... Please help, as I am stuck. :( Thank you, Nick

I've never had the problem with FP2000 and Win XP, what have you tried to solve the problem so far, if at all? And also, what other we design related programs do you have installed, graphics programs not included Dan

Dan, I don't use any programs with the exception of what I convert the audio tapes to mp3 with. That program is called 'Total Recorder'. I have used it for over a year without any problems. Then I updated my security patches via microsoft and downloaded napster. I now get the following message when I try to import either a .mp3 or .rm file. "An error occurred acessing your frontpage web files. Authors - if authoring against a web server, please contact the webmaster for this server's site. Webmasters - please see the server's system log for more details.'' Just this morning I removed napster hoping it would solve the problem, but has not. I wrote napster and of course they haven't a clue as to what I am even talking about... Any help would be most appreciated. I use Frontpage 2000, with XP. Thank you, Nick

Napster will leave a signature on the files, which doesn't allow for piracy. Try running the files through a MP3 convertor, or burn them to CD and then copy them back onto the computer, see what that does for you. You might also want to create a new web and copy the files over and import them into that web. Dan PS Sorry bout the delay
