FrontPage Server Extensions :( - 2/26/2004 11:15:13
Hi Y'all,

I am as stumped as an ol' tree root over this one. I have looked all over Google and can't find an answer :(

I have Windows 2003 Server and FP2003. Installed are FP Server Extensions 2000 and 2002. I have uninstalled SharePoint services.

Now the problem I get is errors being able to upload files to my server from a webpage which say "FrontPage Server extensions are not installed". Well I look in server manager and it shows that I am unable to extend my virtual server because it is version 6.0.2.5516 (IIS Perhaps?) yet the one that is listed as 5.0.2.5012 (IIS ?) can be extended with FPSE 2002.

I then go into the FPSE Admin program and receive the error: "The server administration programs and the server extensions on the web server are not compatible. The administration program is too old to use with this server".

What I have read online is this seems to be a problem for some folks regardless if they are running Windows 2000 or 2003 server, FP2000, 2002 or 2003, and FPSE 2000 or 2002.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail any suggestions? :)

Thanks!!!!

Have you tried with just one set of FPSE?

Hi,

I have tried with just one set as well. The problem seems to be with the fpadmdll.dll file as well. I created a new virtual site and it associated to the FP2002 Server Extensions, yet I still can't get the webadmin.htm page to open.

Have you set up the read/write accress rights on the IIS server, for both FPSE 2002 and 2000? Can yo show me your installation order for the IIS? That might also be the problem.

I have the same setup. Windows server 2003 and use FP2002 and FP2003 and have no problems.

I am wondering why you uninstalled SharePoint services?

I am also having the same problem. I am about ready to give up the ghost here. I to was considering un-installing and re-installing. I just don't get it. I am using Windows Server 2003, and Front Page 2003, nothing else. In IIS Web extensions it shows Front page Server extensions as active, and yet, no forms or counters will work with my server. I'm about to go out of my mind here. Everything that I have been able to find via IIS has pointed to the fact that it should work. SharePoint services ARE installed, and the admin page is of NO use whatsoever.

HEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPP MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

JD - Welcome To Oufront

I can't even get to your web page to see the error, "Service Unavailable". Looks like corrupt FPSE or corrupt installation of IIS.

Yeah, it was doing that, it is back up and "running" as of now, but still no luck on the FPSE front.

When submitting a form, this is what gets displayed:

FrontPage Run-Time Component Page
You have submitted a form or followed a link to a page that requires a web server and the FrontPage Server Extensions to function properly.

This form or other FrontPage component will work correctly if you publish this web to a web server that has the FrontPage Server Extensions installed.

Click the <Back> arrow to return to the previous page.

And the counters do not work either. So something is wrong here in digitalcatville. Knowing me, I missing something REALLY simple. If you know what that is, anybody, tell me PLEASE!!!

No FPSE installed. They mey have been removed since the site was published. If I were you, I;d check with the host to see if they are still there. To prove the first quote - On you rmachine with the web local. Open up one of the pages with forms, and try to submit it. it won't work, it will return that message.

Second quote - Again the FPSEs not working.

The site is now working - you will recieve a dodgy one, that's me - ignore it. I was just testing to see if it still works. What I recommend you do is regularly check to see if the FPSEs are working. If you don't check - traffic to your site will decrease which means business will plummet.

Yes sadly to say i have the same problem Server 2003 w/ FPSE 2002 using Frontpage 2003. I have figured out the problem. Frontpage 2003 is newer than the FPSE 2002 therefore when you get the version 6.0.2.5516 that is your Frontpage extension version witch means FPSE 2002 are not compatible with FP 2003. microsoft needs an update to FPSE 2002 or they need to release FPSE 2003

I ran into this problem sometime ago when I was trying to install on W2KPro locally. You do need the Sharepoint Administration Service on your set up . I had deleted it too, since I was not going to be using Sharepoint features I thought that I did not need it - wrong. You now have to administer your FP web through the Sharepoint Admin pages for using FPSE 2002 with FP2003. I know that I did get the standalone extensions latest versions from MS, rather than use the ones that came with FP2002 and followed this guide from MS:-

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;300018

To adminster the web I started from within FP2003 using Tools>Server and the administration pages from there.

Sorry that this is so vague, but I regard that experience as a very bad dream, better forgotten:)

Edit: FPSE2002 are compatible with FP2003 and Windows Server 2003 - my host runs them too.
