Weird Problem - 5/17/2001 14:08:00
Hi There, I have a weird thing happens to a particular web site. We have a Web Serverthat is running IIS 5.0 on a Windows 2000 environment. I have several web sites that reside on this particular server. There is 1 particular web site that when I publish from FrontPage to this Server, I get the following error message; "The folder "/" is marked executable. You are not allowed to put files into an executable folder on this server." Ok, I found the folder that has this "/". It is listed as a Web Share Alias. The problem is happening when I try to remove it. It will not allow me to remove it. It reapplies itself as an Alias with Executable rights. I stopped the Web Site and tried to remove it and the same thing happened. I then tried to trick it by creating a new folder and then republishing to that folder. The Alias applied itself again. This is so weird, so anyone have any idea what may cause this and how do I fix it? Any input would be great. Thanks Sue

Sue,go to the IIS MMC, right click on the virtual server and go down to properties. Click on the home directory tab and look for the application settings. It's set to script and executable. Set it to scripts only. click apply, click ok. stop and start that virtual server again (extra step, probably not needed but I always like to do it to be safe) and then try to connect. jess ------------------ Applied Innovations http://www.appliedi.net/ FrontPage Web Hosting

Weird thing is happening now. When I changed the application settings from scripts and executables to scripts only, my Novell Web Access does not work (that is a java applet that allows users to access their email through the website). Any suggestions?

Well the applet, does it run on the server? Sounds like it acts as a gateway/server to connect to the mail server. If so then I think you're out of luck unless you to want to move it to seperate virtual server all by itself. Or even move it to another subweb or last resort, change to execute after a publish and to scripts only when you need to publish...Sorry I'm not much help. jess

Thanks Jess that is kind of what I thought. I guess I need to keep researching on the Novell side of it.
