Slowww Load - 5/20/2001 20:14:00
Web host. Over the last couple of days I have created a new site using the rings template, and F2S as a web host. This is the first time I have used the templates rather than grind out my own pages and here is the issue: It loads extremely slowly. I'm trying to troubleshoot this and I can't figure out if the templates are causing some of this or if it is F2S. Any thoughts? I'm certainly willing to move it to another server, if you have a suggestion for a really cheap hosting company that supports asp/FP extensions.
Thanks
Dave

Well I think I may have answered my own question. Ping time for my f2s site average 127ms average for perfect presence 51ms, average for outfront 24ms. So I gues I look elsewhere for a host.
Btw this is on a broadband connection.

Dave, this is just my two cents but that's probably the core problem you want a cheap hosting company and generally the really cheap guys just don't care, they pile you in there and just keep filling and filling and filling it up and aren't concerned with performance. Now this may not be your webhost's problem. You're pinging from your connection to theirs and it's highly possible that the bottleneck is a router somewhere between you and them. It's possible one of the faster connections between you and them are down and you're getting rerouted through another slower link as well. You might want to call them up and find out what type of connectivity they have and what kind of power is in that server of theirs as well as how many hosting accounts they have on it. Hey just ask 'em 'why's my pages loading slow' They might know or might not be aware that there is a problem.

Also, what you can do is go to tracert.com and run trace routes and pings from other network locations to your host and see if they are also slow.

Good luck with the hunt.

Jess

I'm sorry, but F2S notoriously sucks. It just does.

It can't be said often enough: You get what you pay for.

This is true. I'm just looking to host a small web site for my family to be able to post pictures of the kids, etc. Just don't want to spend an arm and a leg doing it. At the same time I am looking for a certain level of service.
A while ago I saw a posting here for a host but have since lost the address. Seems it was 10 or 15 bucks a month. At that I don't know what kind of service to expect.
btw I just ran trace route to my site, 20 hops between here and there, with a bottle neck about 3/4 of the way through. So I'm not sure this is a hosting issue.
