Textarea Boxes in Mozilla - 2/27/2004 10:43:22
When I am making a textarea for my form, and I define it with a class (defining the background color, font color, and border color w/width) the textarea box, in Mozilla, appears about 1/4th the width. In InternetExplorer, it is in the full width (correct width).

In the FrontPage view, the textarea appears in the full size, then I goto preview, still is the full size, then I open it in Mozilla, and it is 1/4th the size (wide).

Another Mozilla problem?

Hi Bobby, suggestion, when working on your designs, don't depend on IE for making sure you have it correct. IE is too forgivin of things. Dont be so quick to think that it is Mozilla, :)

Try validating your page both html and css, see if anything turns up when you do this.

mrbobdouglas[dot]com/stuff/textarea1.htm (without css)
mrbobdouglas[dot]com/stuff/textarea2.htm (with css)

mrbobdouglas[dot]com/stuff/explorer.jpg (screenshot using IE)
mrbobdouglas[dot]com/stuff/firefox.jpg (screenshot using firefox 0.8)

I haven't checked this on other computers. First off, check to see if you produce the same result. Not sure what else to do on this one.

I think the problem is with the font size. However, I am not sure how else I could get the correct font size in Mozilla. Any ideas?

Hi Bobby, could you provide a link to the site?
I'm not familar with forms, but maybe if I could see the site and look at the css and html?

Links are posted. The textarea box (not the form) is what the problem is. I created two pages, one page with the textarea box without the CSS, and then another page with the textarea box with the CSS.

Well I want to get this working seperatly right now. No need to insert a bunch of other code if it does not work in this condition.

mrbobdouglas/form.htm is the name of the page on my site that I will be using this on.

I don't see why we would need that though....

Well, I tried to run this through the validator to see if it would pull anything up as I can't see anything myself by looking at it, and without the dtd it won't validate it.

ok... I don't know what to do in order to get it to work, oh well.

This is why I thought it was a Mozilla problem.

Thanks for helping c1sissy :)

you couild copy all his code and put it into a doc of your own with a dtd thing.

of course, so could I but right now I can't even type straight and need to go to bed. :)

Usually, if it's messed up in Mozilla, it's because it's not up to standards somehow, even if it looks good in IE.

I do know, however, that for some reason, Moz doesn't like the "vertical-align" command (selector, whatever....the doo-hickey before the : . ) :-) So if' you are trying to style something like "vertical-align: top;" then eliminate it and see if that helps. It will go to top by default, anyway.

Actually, I was going to do that, but I was also anxious to hit the z's! So before I could do this my youngest who I had instructed to "straighten up his room" decided to pull it apart and clean it! Well I am sure you could picture the mess that an 11 year old who hoards all could make at 8-9 at night! So, my attention was sort of not on this too much, lol! ever heard the term pack rat?:):):)

You would think it would be easy to do. It is just like modifying a text box but this time a textarea.

CSS is stupid! :)

CSS is not stupid, IMO.

See here is the thing, there is a good bit to learn about css. But in the end it is worth it. There are many selectors that need to be learned, or looked up, however you do this. Understanding inheritance, which is what I am working on, decendants, children etc... selectors.

Look at zenful creations. These people didnt come up wiht these designs without totally learning css. Its important to truly know it and how it works.

Once again, Just my opnion!:):)

CSS is stupid!

Ok, ready to hit ourselves over our heads?
font-size: 11 px;

Should have been:
font-size: 11px;

I changed it, and it works. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH :):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)

hee hee hee....

there's an old adage, "it's not the camera but the person behind the button".

I've been screwed up over missing ; 's or using a : by accident instead of a ; or forgetting a -.

CSS isn't stupid - just VERY PICKY. LOL

Believe me I sympathise one tiny typo can really mess your day up.

BTW deb you can use the advanced validation interface and set an override doctype. Thats what I do.

(stands up) My name is gorilla and I haven't used tables for ages now. Then when I was sure my probation officer wasn't looking I went on a jag with my too old pals NN4.7x and IE.6.0spxxx. Tables oooh lovely warm comforting nested tables but I can control it any time I want. I just need a shot of ems, and pts, and pixes, and to never ever make a typing error.

Actually I only came to this meeting because somebody said that bobby was bringing coffee and donuts...............

Knows his stuff, shares his knowledge, and has a great sense of humour too ... Man I hope you stick around :). Incidentally thanks for the pm. I will get to take a look - I'm working on that blasted forum prob its jelling nicley (thank you lord for php) but its taking a wee bit of time. Interim solution is to gie 'em a commenting system in a password protected area. That works very nicely and no database required. I'll be interested to get their feedback

The great Gorilla has me questioning what he means by this? Eager student always willing to learn.

I am bringing banana bread to this meeting. MMM coffee and banana bread. Nothing, well almost nothing beats it :)

This is soooo true!

And BobbyD, I second Gorillas statement about you hanging on in here.:)
