OK...so far, so good...I took all suggestions into consideration, and Mikes thumbnail to heart (for now), like I said, I just want this site to look like more than an amateur effort.... I want to add the mouseovers next....and read tutorials on CSS and stuff, then little by little, make the website more GTE, I just needed some guidance, thats all...thanx all!!!:) I decided that leaving the shared borders is easier for now, but who knows once I learn more..... One more thing....is there any way I can make the forum show up in an inline frame????

Mike54, Here's how I get that same effect for color change rollover: http://www.horsehoundbar.com/glim.htm I go into page properties and set all three hyperlinks to the same color. The I go into rollover properties on that same page and select the color that I want on rollover. Seems quite simple and it works. What is the difference in what you do with CSS, especially for a novice who prefers to follow the path of least resistance? Is there some "quirk" in the coding doing it my way? Thanks

But for the links elsewhere on the page, I simply highlight them to a different color, underline them, - whatever I want them to be- and that change overrides the page properties rollover effect for that particular link.

I'm not making the point that my way is better. I know it has its limitations. And eventually I must learn the techniques that you propose. But one of the frustrations I suffer as a novice is that the advice that is given to us is sometimes creeping elegance, rather than just learning the basics first. Many times I see advice that says ..."just copy the CSS code, insert it in your html, tweak it to your specific site....blah, blah, blah...." That's too daunting for a novice who has purchased FP because the coding is supposed to be like shooting fish in a barrel. Well that's not so. But still I want to know what FP will do without using the HTML editor at all. And after that I'll get good enough with it, and bored enough with to explore the alternatives and all the other alternatives. (I just highlight the underlined hover link and then click the U tool function. That removes it. I know that Netscape people still see it,but I'm OK with that. There's a lot of things that Netscape degrades) Thanks Mike. You responses are appreciated and I am cataloging them for later use.

ORIGINAL: Mike54 Doesn't that remove the underline from the link completely? AFAIK using FP WYSIWYG alone you can change the color of the links and you either have the underline or not but you can't have the underline in some instances for a link and not in others. If I'm wrong someone please correct me. Here's what I've done on my site, Mike. www.phoenixgolfers.org I use a graphic image on the top banner (will be changed to a better graphic soon) I use a red underline for the coupon I use the red not underlined for (more) And then I use the rollover color change on the bottom navigation. I've been told that my code is "bulky", but never by the visitors to the site, who seem to like it.

GTE, I hope this dialogue is helpful for your thread on getting the things done you want for your site. If it deflects from that let me know and I'll delete.

I like the header picture a lot. Its a shame you didnt spend the same time and effort on the rest of the site. There is a good deal of content to work with just come up with a new template and wack it around it and your in business.

But still I want to know what FP will do without using the HTML editor at all. And after that I'll get good enough with it, and bored enough with to explore the alternatives and all the other alternatives. Well, if you're just bulding your own personal site, just for fun or whatever, then heck, you don't really need to know the "more elegant" stuff. But if you are building a site for others, or if you are building a site to promote your business, in my opinion, you owe it to your clients and visitors to make it as professional as possible. I sometimes rue the day that I got talked into using Front Page instead of notepad. I was having a grand time learning to code with html and notepad, then my first "client" contacted me asking me to make a web page for him after he saw one I was playing around with. His only stipulation was that I use Front Page, because -- I quote: "HTML is going outdated, and Front Page is industry standard software. All professionals use it." Now, he is not a software seller, but you can tell that he's a sucessful saleman (real estate). He purchased it for me and told me that he wanted me to build his site with it. Well, now that you're all done laughing at his comments....I feel that for learning the basics, Front Page can help you but it's a very frustrating process. What front page has taught me was how to go in and remove the junk code and deprecated and redundant tags that it inserts. The only thing that kept me from totally trashing my Front Page disc was Outfront. Don't get me wrong; I sound like I'm bashing front page, and perhaps I am , but that's because I spent a long night last night going back to this guy's site and removing all the redundant <font> tags, "border-collapse: collapse" commands and a whole host of other commands and tags that are no longer up to W3C standards. Some of the stuff that you can do with front page looks beautiful in Internet Explorer but falls apart completely elsewhere in other browsers. Sure, the vast majority of people use IE, but if you are a business person you don't want to make your website inaccessible or ugly to a potential customer just because they use a different browser. I don't know , I guess I'm rambling too much. If you want to learn I think your best bet is in hand coding it, learning as much as you can with CSS and implementing it. A year ago the mere mention of CSS would send me screaming the other direction. I took a baby step - using an Outfront tutorial on CSS text controls and that got me started and I've not looked back. I'm still very frustrated with pure CSS but I'm doing my best to do my sites according to W3C standards, and you just can't do that when heavily relying on Front Page to do the dirty work for you. In my opinion....it's just better to learn how to do it right the first time, than to learn the quirks of FP and then go unlearn them and undo the quircky stuff that FP did and then learn the "standards" way. Using CSS for text control is a baby step, and it's one that is very easy to learn. The Outfront tutorials are great and I found them to be just the jump start I needed. And furthermore, I don't want to sound as if I am underappreciating Front Page. I do like it, now, in spite of itself. LOL I like the web management; I like the speed with which I can create a site. I don't hate front page anymore, though I did for a while. I like the find/replace feature better than the one in NoteTab...makes getting rid of all those extra <font> tags across the whole website a pretty snappy process.

Minix, I am using all of this to figure out how to get things done, and ill have my mouseovers in no time :) quote:

If this was directed to me , alansmith, I have spent more time on this site, than in the header...that was made for me. This site has undergone so many changes...I couldnt start to explain, but like I said, I am new to it, ive spent whole days off, trying to learn some html, a whole day to figure out how to install the forum I wanted....and hours reading tutorials. Im still learning , so bear with me...when the smoke clears, the site will be just fine...especially for the few people I can get to visit it. That said...I have work to do,lol, need to figure out where to insert that code...thanks a bunch guys for the time spent making me examples to go by, I greatly appreciate it.

You can do the mouseover with borders fairly simply. This is how I did it: I put the actual code etc in the BODY of the page, not the borders. Then I switched to "normal" view, highlighted it, cut it and pasted it in the border where I wanted it to go.
