Text invisible to spiders? - 3/12/2004 16:22:09
For some time I've suspected that almost all of the text on my home page is invisible because when searching for keywords using Google I find that they are not highlighted in Google's cache results.

I have used Poodle Predictor today and it seems to confirm in TextView that my text is not showing up to spiders as the page appears virtually blank. Any ideas please?

Strangely, Poodle Predictor doesn't list any linked pages either (but I do have them) so this could explain why my other pages are not being indexed. I built my site using FP 2002 but didn't use frames, I simply used text boxes through out, could this be the problem? The only other idea I have is that it could be the gif I used as background for my pages.

I do intend to build a replacement site and follow instructions this time!

Thank you
gorilla

The url is the one in your profile? At a guess the'yre choking on all the proprietary stuff in there. I had a look at the source:

<html xmlns:v="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" xmlns:o="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40">

That's a dead give away that you created a fair bit of the the content in MS Office - probably word? To be honest you'd be better to start from scratch with Frontpage. At the moment what is happening is that your text is being dragged into an image so there's nothing to index.
