help needed - 3/13/2004 14:34:47
i am trying to design a site for a video library. i have a link for DVD's
When someone clicks it i want them to see a drop down box where they those the type of dvd they want to choose ie Comedy then once they have chosen thier type i want a list of dvd's in that catergory displayed.
they display must take the form of a table with rows and should display a picture of the cover , title, actors, and price. this information is stored in a database.

1. i dont know how to design the drop down box. if thats a good idea
2. are the pages which show the Dvd info. meant to be data active pages or htm pages im not sure

any ideas are welcome

Hi Zed and Welcome to Outfront. Sounds like you need a database solution here. You need to put your dvds into a database and include items such as category in the database table. You can then use FrontPage and forms to interact with the database. Do you have MS Access? If so, you may want to create your db and then import it to FP. If you do not have Access, FP can create an Access db for you. What you need to do is create a FP form that includes fields for all the items you want to list for each dvd. Once the form is created, you right-click it and choose "Form Properties". Then choose the "send to database" option. Click the "Options" button and you will see a button labeled "Create Database". Click that and FP will create a db for you. Does that help you get started?

If you get stuck, post questions in the Database/ASP forum. We'll be glad to help you along.

Good luck!
