"Publishing" changes page name and extensions! - 3/13/2004 23:50:56
This is driving me mad. It's just started happening. I was working on updating my webpage, and when I published it, I noticed that in the "publishing" window it said something about "Publishing home page as index.html"

GAH! My home page was automatically saved as "Default.htm" when I first created the web. It's always uploaded as Default.htm and now it's being uploaded as index and it's got an html extension, not an htm extension!

So, I reopened the "index.html" in FP and changed the name back to Default.htm and again hit the publish button. Again, it said it was publishing the home page as index.html!

This time I opened the page up in FP, and I saved it as BOTH Default.htm and index.html, so at least now if someone types in the URL the home page pops up, as it wouldn't before.

Also, I have a navigation bar and I typed in the hyperlinks as "order_info.htm" and that's what I named the order info page, but when I calculated my hyperlinks before publishing, they were all broken because they were now all showing as html extensions, and NOT htm!

This shouldn't be happening! What vital piece of information am I missing that is causing these changes?
Sandy

do not be concerned. This is a server setting and your host just probably upgraded or changed something.

This could be a problem. Unfortunately, your only choice may be to rename the pages. I would contact the host first, though...ellipisces

as always, back everything up before doing any changes

You might have a problem in either a file on your server named .htaccess or postinfo.html. Take a look in their and delete any occurances of indec.htm / index.html.

Also, this is usually a question you would want to ask your host, and not us, since it could be many things that they have done to have this change.
