Uploading pages - timed out - 6/20/2001 19:59:00
When I try to upload "changed pages only" to my website, the text disappears from most of the navigation bars besides other problems. I get the following:

1 - I type the website address of my domain to Publish it to
2 - The display shows "Listing pages in C:\WEBSHARE\WWWROOT\my website(which is where my site is on my PC)
3 - The display then shows "Listing pages in http://www.stylediskwarehouse.com (where my site is hosted)
4 - There is very little activity in the connection icon (the two TV screen) on my task bar
5 - After 5 minutes or so I get the message "The server """" timed out. The current request did not complete successfully.

This is what I get every time I try to upload "changed pages only", of which there are probably a dozen or so. Can anyone PLEASE help???? I'm quite green on these matters. Many thanks.
Neil.

Before you upload Changed Pages get into the habit of going to >Tools>Refresh Hyperlinks
and this should solve your Navigation problem.
As for timing out, contact your host and let them know this, you will find that a tweek to the server is required. I have experienced this on the odd occassion, mainly when uploading during periods of heavy traffic so sometimes it also helps to upload when things are quieter.

Tried that thanks, Webbo - but the problem persists. The nav. bars are nearly all blank. Any other ideas?

Neil.

This has happened to me also. What I did was after publishing didn't finish properly and left my navi buttons with no text, I opened up the website on my webserver (not my local copy) and went to Tools, Recalculate Hyperlinks and after a while all the buttons had text again.
hope this helps..

Many thanks for the suggestion Amelia, but how do you do that exactly? I've got Internet Explorer 5 - can it be done from that?

Thanks once again. Between us we'll get there!

You need to do it using FrontPage. I've got FP2000.

Go to File, Open Web, click on the Web Folders icon on the left. Where it says Folder Name type in the name of your website eg http://www.mywebsite.com then click on Open. You'll be prompted for your User Name & Password, enter those.

Once the website has finished loading, go to Tools and select Recalculate Hyperlinks. Agree to whatever the message says. Wait until it finishes.. can take quite a few minutes if your website is large.

While it's doing its thing there will be a red stop button showing in the standard tool bar (the tool bar that also has the cut and paste icons). Once the red stop button has turned to grey, go and look at your website in your browser. You might need to refresh your browser to see the text on the buttons.

hope it works for you, Amelia

Many thanks Amelia. You've cracked it! Thanks also to everyone else who's tried to help. It's great to know there's support out there.

Neil.
