Please critique my site(s) - 3/16/2004 10:30:54
I just joined your group here and i see i can take advantage of the perks you have in this site. Please critique my site(s). I have one to promote my business: http://continue.to/properdesigns (a free site with pop ups) and the other one is http://gatorfootball.org (this site is for a community football team)

"Please be gentle.":) Really any feedback is good feedback and i appreciate it. Thanks! It can only make me better!

I really like the nav buttons, however I'm having problems with them working properly, so I didn't go past the first page. What are the team/mascot colors - I think you should have a better representation of that on the very top.

Don't like the scrolling text. Don't like Times Roman and mixed fonts. There's a big grey box in the center with nothing in it.

I'll be happy to go more indepth as I figure out those football buttons.

The Gators site. Like the colours. Nav buttons work ok for me. Some of the text could be lined up a bit better.... "thank you for your poll responses" looks like it's slipped left and try

And can you slow the marquee down a tad? On my connection it shoots across so fast I had trouble reading it.

Your own site.

I would spice it up a bit. As you are selling your services it seems a bit basic. Customers may think that's the sort of thing they'll be getting.

A lot of your text hits the margins, try putting some padding in.
Again.... slow the marquee down.

Clothing.... I can't actually read any of the yellow text on the aqua/pink/lilac etc. background. I have a highbrite TFT monitor and the colours just merge. You have put yourself at a disadvantage with anyone who has sight problems. One in five people have some form of colour blindness and will see an empty page.

check out this article.

Hope it helps. :)

PS. Gosh! You're brave putting your photo on. Well done that woman! Me......? No chance :)

Hello again tprimm,

I'm still experiencing the same problems with the buttons on the front page. They won't engage for me. My cursor just flutters over them and won't change to the activate mode. However when I go inside the web via the other links, they work fine. Also, your banner section stays grey on the front page, but then reappears after I go into the site and then come back to the front page.

The columns of text and spacing seem disjointed to me. For the type of site and information that you are going with, maybe think about more a newspaper style design? Maybe more defined columns with a line separator and better spacing of the text would help the readers flow.

On another note, I tried to color in your gator logo. This is the very first project that I did using Paint SHop Pro , so the results are less than stellar, but I'm off and running with PSP now. If you'd like to see it go to the link below - the top one is a jpeg file and the bottom one is a transparent gif. Use them if you have a place for them. Perhaps some of our more expert PSP folks can help me better understand how to improve on what I did.

looks pretty good! the only thing that i'd suggest is to continue the black outline around the bottom of the croc's footbal top.

that's the trouble with using bitmap tools - isn't there a pen tool in PSP so you can draw a vector path (i.e. a curve)?
it's a lot easier to draw a path and then tweak it after with control points, unless you're an artist who can draw 'naturally' on a computer: i have enough trouble with paper and pencil!

Tprimm

Went to have another look at your home site and I'd advise you to do something about the entry page with the ads and redirect. I was presented with a pop up which insisted I should download some games. When I clicked on no, it started to throw up further pop-ups saying "Are you sure" and "You really don't want to play games?" When I cancelled those it then tried to install something. :)

If you are trying to get web design contracts I can guarantee you won't get them if that's what potential clients are confronted with.

Likewise tprimm.

If you hadn't posted that youth football site, and only your Home site, I would have felt cheated and scammed by someone who was trying to dump spyware on my system. So I'll just pass it off as someone using training wheels to get a good head start on becoming an Olympic cyclist.

I have to agree a web designer that has a redirect page?? then when you get to the page lets face it who in ther right mind will pay you to build ther web site when the site that is trying to sell the goods looks like a child made it come on get real.
Sorry to be so blunt but my moto is tell it as it is

Thank you everyone for the critiques. This shows that I need to make some changes to my site to make it a little more user friendly and professional. I am learning! :) I'm sure the next time around it will be better. I will inform again when I am ready for it to be viewed. Thanks and have a great weekend everyone. That's a great loooking pic, minix, I may just use it. Thanks so much! :)

Hey, you keep at it. We all start somewhere. My first site is long dead and gone thank heavens. :) The second one is still lurking though :)
