I would like to bid on eBay for a server I intend to use as a "learning and staging" server for building small intranets. I am especially interested in exploring the ability to crawl and index Word documents on an Intranet.I haven't completely sorted out all the latest MS Web Server SW bundles, but I anticipate this platform would be my development/test/staging host for stuff like: FP Web Server+Extensions, SiteServer, Exchange Server, SQLServer.
There would be a single user (me) running Office XP+FrontPage Developer and I would be the only user publishing to this new server via a LAN; perhaps with the occasional offsite user/customer checking something out via an ADSL connection. It would not be used as a "production" server.
I am interested in anyone's suggestions concerning processor speed, minimum memory, and hard drive, etc. I prefer Dell servers but I am open to any and all suggestions.
