test site - 7/12/2001 23:50:00
Hiya. i would like to load the FP 2002 server extensions on my test site, but when I tried, an error message said I needed IIS 4.0 or above.

IT is not going to give me IIS for a test server, which currently uses Peer Web Server.

Anyone know if the fp2002 extensions will load onto the Personal Web Server (for NT 4.0) ?

Hmm, I thought the 2002 extensions required IIS5? If so, you'll need W2K Pro at the least.

What?

We have an in-house server, & our IT gurus say that upgrading our nt network to win2000 would be too expensive, at the moment.

FP system requirements state that fp2002 can be used on NT 4 and iis 4.

I want the new features, namely usage stats, without getting a whole new network.

Looks like you got the answer right there?

I'm not getting something here - You have a "in-house server" now? Running IIS4?
Just install the 2002 extensions?????

I installed fp2002 on a NT4.0 workstation running IIS 4.0. I did not get any of the FP2002 funtionality. my hosting supplier is still refusing to install the Fp2002 extensions. This might tell you something about their funtionality.

Right, see that's what I'm talking about. I want to load the fp2002 extensions on my "test" server first, so I can test them, before recommending them for the IIS 4 server, so that I don't inadvertantly shut down the whole network. There are hundreds of computers on it.

But the fp2002 extensions won't load on my test server, which is Peer Web. So I was wondering if anyone has any "safe" suggestions, (Gil), for loading them on an NT test server, other than Peer Web.

If you mean the Peer Web Server - you can't. Sorry.

The only thing I can suggest is standing up a NT4 server with IIS4 - if that isn't possible, you'll have to stick with the 2000 extensions OR load the 2002 extensions on your existing NT4/IIS4 server.

I don't understand how a problem with a web server could "shut down the whole network", the web server would only make the web site not work, it wouldn't "shut down" the LAN.

Ok, back to my original question:

Does anyone know if the fp2002 extensions will load onto the Personal Web Server (for NT 4.0) ?

robble: did you try installing from the fpse02_x86_ENG ?

OK, back to the original answer - No - FP2002 extension require IIS4 or higher.

Attitude? Not sure what you mean.

I DO understand your frustration at not getting the funds from the company to do things the right way - been there done that .

But, the answer didn't/wouldn't/won't change no matter how much you wish it to - You will still need IIS4 to do what you want - sorry, I really do wish there was a better answer, but...

BTW, setting up a NT4 box with IIS4 for you to test on would not cost much at all, maybe you can talk the IT gurus into that?

Gil is entirely correct the spec is the spec and to be quite frank about it from what I can see anyone who tries the fp2002 extns on anything below IIS5 is looking for trouble - yes I know that MS say it'll work with IIS4 - that doesn't necessarily mean that it will work well. - What do you think the expression minimal means?

Hope this helps :-)

I see your concern about wanting to do this on a TEST server first. Since it doesn't work on peer web server, you have only two choices, 1) Setup a test server, or 2) Go live with it. IF your IT guys can not set you up a Test Server with IIS 4, then thats sad. Fortunately I am also the IT guy, so I do whatever it takes. Good luck, hope you work it out.
