Peer Web Services - 7/13/2001 20:27:00
With budget cuts and other things, we are reduced to running an NT workstation with Peer Web Services on it until we are able to allow for an upgrade to NT server and IIS. I have found that it will not run .ASP (most of my pages are .ASP). I have read where you can run .ASP pages with Peer Web Services, but you need a file called asp.exe which is included on the FrontPage 98 cd. Well that is fine and dandy, but I'm running FrontPage 2000 and do not have a FP 98 cd. Can anyone tell me where I can locate this file? I have tried Microsoft, but no luck. By the way, this is only for our intranet.I should also tell you that I have been running Win 98 with PWS, but my boss wants to change to the NT for the security. Our intranet is not up and running as with just Win 98, I did not want my computer to also act as the web server. Any other tips you would have for Peer Web Services would be most welcome also. One day we are going to get a machine up with Linx and Apache on it, but not in the too near future from what I understand. TIA Lorri

You need PWS for NT 4.0. It is for sure located in the NT 4.0 option pack. Which is/was available for a download from M$ at http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/ntoptionpack/askwiz.asp IIS 4.0 is installed with the installation of PWS by default. IIS is required the operation of PWS on NT. The FP2000 server extensions then need to be downloaded/installed then applied to the web ffrom the IIS management console as described in microsoft tech article Q300004 - HOW TO: Install and Configure FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions on a Windows NT-Based Web Server (Windows NT or Windows 2000) after installation of PWS, and a reboot, installation of server extensions, and a reboot, go start/programs/windows nt 4.0 option pack/microsoft personal web server/internet service manager
And If I remember correctly: In IIS you should see your machine name with a listing for "default web" under it. do a right click on the default web and there should be "Apply server extensions" reboot again when it says so, and you should be close to go. ASP files and a ton of other things wont work with out the server extensions sucessfully applied to the web. I found that out about the same way as you are. By trial and error.
