frontpage dwt not working??? - 3/22/2004 4:50:01
Hi,
I am a newbie at using Frontpage 2003.
I want to make a .dwt and use it in all m,y pages. So, i create a simple dwt and saved it.
Then, i opned a simple html file (blank). I wanted to apply the initially created dwt on it.So, i wne tin to "Format" and tried to choose "attach dynamic web templates". But that option in seen as DISABLED. All the options in the dynamic web template option except "manage editable regions" are seen DISABLED.
I have spent much time on it but cannot figure out the problem. Is my software not proper.

Firstly, Welcome to Outfront
What versions of windows are you using? If Windows 9x/Me you need to save the .dwt file with the rest of the FrontPage templates in, if I remember rightly, C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Templates -or- C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates
If Using 2000/XP then you need to save it in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Templates
Something close the that. Then if you go to File>New>New Page and go into the Templates area, you should find your template in there, with editable regions.

hi dan,
i m using xp. i did exactly wht u said bt still no Luck.
There was no templaes folder in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ so i created one and saved the file in it.
if i go to File>New> there is no "New Page and go into the Templates area" shwon at all. Also, format > dynamic web templates > manage editable region is shown. None of the other optons in that submenu are enabled.
help pls.

There's no need to create a file called Application Data at that location, is already exists, it's hidden folder. Tools>Folder Option>View>Show Hidden Files And Folders
You should find it there

i saved the dwt file in the hidden folder "templates". It is in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users and not inside Application Data. both application data and templates are 2 hidden folder in the same directory.
But still no luck. Is my software pirated??

I can't tell from here, that depends on how you obtained the sofware
Try saving the template to here:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates\1033
Then try

read tht too...not for me...
can u pls ask any of your friends who use the dwt's , if you are not aware wht the prblem is? I have installed fp 03 after ms office separately. Does it matter. dun think so..pls revert with some way out.

Actually, yes it does, did you get FP as a separate program, or is with MS Office?

Yes, i got it as a separate program and not with MS Office.
How does it matter. If it does, how can i use DWT feature in it.
All other things work fine in the FP 03 that i use currently.

Different Installation Directories. Explains wher I've been going wrong here. In C:\Program Files there should be a directory call Microsoft FrontPage, or just plain old FrontPage. OPen that up and see if you can find the Templates folder in there.

Hi, there is a directory C:\Program Files\microsoft frontpage .
Bt it has not templates folder. Just bin folder, ver 3 in it.
Also, a point to be noted, that when i open Start>Programs files>microsft office> - Microsoft frontpage is shown along with excel, access, etc..
any ideas...i knw tried a lot..still if u can

Yeh, if i go file>open> my .dwt - i can opne it can see al the editable regions as well as non-editable ones.
Only thing is that , when i opne the banlk html page on which i want to apply this .dwt, the"attach" option in the FORMAT menu is shwon disbabled.
-Pls look into it.

Hello.
Was this problem ever resolved. Have just purchased (heavily discounted) version of FP 2003 and am having exactly the same difficulties.
Any help gratefully received.

i know that in dreamweaver, if you have a dwt and want a new page, you do not do open - you do New..then it lets you choose..blank html etc etc and one choice is dwt page. might be similar in FP
