? about embedded images in photo gallery - 3/23/2004 9:42:35
I created four photogalleries with embedded images and captions. On a whim, I decided to go to my hard drive and edit all of the images to make them look better and brighter. I saved all of the image files, and then checked to see if the images in my photo galleries showed the updats. The images were unchanged even though they were the same image files I had improved. Did that have anything to do with the images already being imbedded on the pages? I had to remove all of the images I had and add them again. That time, the changes were accepted. What is someone elses take on that?

It sounds like you are saying you edited the original pictures, and not within the photogallery? When you insert a photo gallery into your web, a new folder called photogallery is created and the images you inserted into the photo gallery are copied to this folder. It is to your advantage to edit the pictures before inserting them into the photo gallery; however you may do some basic editing to the images once in the photo gallery. Read this concise tutorial http://www.outfront.net/tutorials_02/fp_techniques/photogallery.htm available here at OutFront re the FP photo gallery. Trish

If your picture quality wasn't the best, something to think about is the fact that FP automatically compresses your photos another 10 or 15 percent and sometimes that causes degradation. When you go to save your work and publish, a dialogue box pops up. I don't recall the exact wording but you can adjust the setting so FP does no further compressing. Dave

Thank you - 3/23/2004 13:46:57
Dash, You provided me with great info. I totally forgot that I could to into my folders, find that particular photogallery, and then edit the photos. Now, I will have to watch for that dialogue box. I use FP2002, and all I get once I save the images is the message "generating thumbnails" or something to that effect. Sometimes FP barely touches my pictures and they look totally like the original on my photo CD. Then there are times the compression hits pretty hard and makes my images look watery.
