OK...You've all gotten me this far...Now I need the big kahuna, the knockout blow. I need to know what my folder should look like so that I don't haveta go in every time and take out that slash from the code on each image. I need to know how to organize everything, if that is possible. To anyone that can fix my ultimate problem I will give a candy cane and 12 cents for every quadrillion dollars I make in my life.

Thanks!

I jsut asked another user, and he said that if you move an image, it will not update the image clocation inside of your page.

that is such cack.
if you move things within the dreamweaver site manager then everything updates.
since version 1,
always (unless you say not to!)
no recalculate hyperlink nonsense.

if you for e.g. you move an image you get a confirmation window to ask if you want to update links, saying yes updates all references to the file.

quote:

if it was an external page, the links would NOT be updated. oibviously
what do you mean by an external page? one not in the site? on on another site with only an absolute url or what?

why not download dreamweaver and try it for yourself
the people you asked have obviously never used DW or if they have they haven't got a clue what they are talking about.

stegroid - when you go to "insert image" at the bottom (or somewhere in) the dialogue box it says

relative to : site root / document
make sure you pick "document" and then check that the remote structure of your site (on the server) is the same as your local structure. you might want to 'synchonise files' for the whole site and upload any new things to make sure you have everything in the right place

No need to get offensive. I'll be the first to admit, I don't know or use DW. I looked at it, felt that the learning curve was too steep, and let it go. If you are the dreamweaver then just answer the question...

I need to know how to organize everything, if that is possible.

BTW - did I not have the correct answer when I said "Looks like a path or location problem"?

sorry ellipisces I didn't mean you, I'm talking about your friends who clearly don't know what they are talking about. sorry if that seems offensive but it's clearly true that they don't when they have told you what they have told you.

I tried to answer the question and
quote:

BTW - did I not have the correct answer when I said "Looks like a path or location problem"?

I thought you had answered the question as well and i was only adding to that by expanding with the 'insert images dialogue' because there still seemed some confusionon behalfof the original poster

To be honest i get a bit defensive about dreamweaver because people always say it is so much harder to use etc etc, while i agree it maybe harder for some/most people at first/altogether I do get upset when people say that it doesn't do this or that when it it's just plain wrong. I'm not trying to convert everyone over to dreamweaver (well not really) just to point out that to say it doesn't update links is wrong and misleading.

hope that clears that up and you realise it wasn't directed at you but at the information you were told (not your fault)
:)

Yes.

In Dreamweaver Site view, if you delete an image, page or move something, you have the choice to update.

If I want to change an external link (which was not the point in question), I just do a "Find and Replace" in that same view.

I am going to ask this again, since it was not answered, and I feel it is realevant to the above question.

Have you "Defined Sites" in Dreamweaver for this website?

Dave, they thought they knew what they were talking about. Now it is cleared up, most of them just never knew about it I guess.

Thanks for the info Lori, nice to know this is a feature in DW :)
