Newbie's first website -Q's - 3/30/2004 11:33:22
Hello everyone I am going to buy a webpage from Outfront's list for sale. That seems like the easy way to start. I think I would buy one with Photoshop code so I can change to images. I also want to make a scroll on the bottom of the page with company info in it that can be updated. Beyond that, I want to have a 2D company logo rotating on the top right. Will these designs from Outfront do that or should I be making it up from scratch in FrontPage 2003. Any advice is greatly appreciated as i have never done this before. Thanks geoffjak

I agree with what jaybee has said, although many of the top sites on the net are still using scroll text bars - http://news.bbc.co.uk , for example. they are ok if both the kb size and pixel size are small and that they are relevant to the rest of the site. quote:
ORIGINAL: jaybee Not wishing to take revenue from the template pot, if you have the time I think you should have a go at building it yourself. You'll learn more that way. that could be true, although i have learnt much by deconstructing other peoples work.

It all depends on the nature of the web site - if its business then steer clear of the rotating logos and so on. However if its purely getting to know web site design, you make that logo spin, make things flash and rotate and dance. The only way to truely learn is by trial and error - if your only just learning - have some fun :)

The reason for the lack of enthusiasm with animations and scrolling text; It has been proven that most internet users now completely ignore anything moving on the page. That is because it is most often used for ads. As far as starting from scratch, I wouldn't and don't. There are so many excellent designs available for such little cost. I just don't see a "business case" for starting from scratch, unless you have a lot of free time on your hands and you are a graphics designer....

I think purchasing one of the Outfront Templates would be a great place to start for a beginner... Go for it! However, if you have not ever used Photoshop the learning curve is a bit steep for much more then simple edits to the text or popping a new picture on in a layer... Therfore, grab your template and if you need any help with Photoshop, let me know - I would be happy to get you started on some basics.
