Adding IP Address - 8/14/2001 15:16:00
Hi All, I've had my nose in my new MS IIS 5 Admin book now for a couple of days, and I think I'm getting the idea. Now I want to start setting up a couple of sites. One thing I am stuck on is that I have a stack of 10 IP addresses at my disposal, one of which is bound to the network adaptor and I can use that to access my Default Web Site. Now I want to use the next IP address on the list for another site, but don't know how to bind this also to the network adaptor. (Or maybe I don't need to and have got the wrong idea about this ) Any help at all will be more than welcome, and thanks in advance.Vince

Vince, you know I'm a Unix server guy, not IIS, but I think you just add the other 9 IPs via the advanced tab in the MMC thren choose one from thre drop down when creating a site.Hopefully Rian, Storm or Jess will be along soon to correct me ------------------ Gil Harvey The Host Factory Resellers are our speciality "Indecision may or may not be my problem"

you can configure IIS to use multiple IP addresses through the advanced option as Gil mentioned. However, in order to do this you have to install additional network cards into the server as you can bind only one IP to a network card at a time.------------------ storm... Hi Guys, thanks very much for the answers. I must admit I am a bit confused now though. The hosts we use at the moment for instance have around 200+ domains on one server each with a seperate IP for ftp and www. I guess this doesn't mean they have hundreds of network adaptor cards installed, (or maybe it does ) but if not what then is the usual scenario for hosting multiple domains on one server? Thanks again for the help Gil and Storm.Vince

i stand corrected....in 2000 you can bind more then on ip to the nic and here's how:open the properties for your tcp\ip stack right click ntework places, choose properties, right click the network, choose properties, click tcp\ip choose properties, click advanced, on the ip addresses block click add and add the ip with the subnet. make a dns entry pointint to the ip, open iis and add it in in the advanced option. later, storm....
