Trying to nest a new site in an older one - 4/2/2004 13:32:13
Hello,

I'm trying to nest a new site within an older one, because I don't want to just post the new one up on top of the old one without my client's approval first. I could avoid that by maybe just renaming the index page, but I don't want the old files all intermingled with the new ones (I want to be able to clean the old site off the server).

I tried publishing the entire site to a folder within the old site, but I can't see it from a webbrowser then.

I've tried looking for solutions to this, but all the help files assume that when you're done your site, you just upload it. What if I want to upload it but keep the old site in place until I get approval for the new one?

Thanks for any help...

Why not? What happened?

Try asking your client's host for some temporary space. Sometimes hosts will set up a temporary site for you to develop, and then switch their host mapping when you're done. You'll want to let them know they can clean up the old site when the switch is made.

yeh, I can't understand this one either. I do this often. What I do is send them an e-mail with the link to the new site, which maybe something like www.yourold.com/newdotcom/. you don't want to change yourold.com until everything is ready, then from FP, simply rename and move some files and guess what, a new masterpiece is born...

Take the folder, and right click on it to create a subweb, so that they stay very separate. Then, when you want to upload the subweb, just login and republish it to the main .com, rewriting all the files (and make sure you have a 404 page).
