Good hosting for Spooky? - 9/17/2001 20:32:00
Does anyone know of a good hosting company that supports writing to databases (something that I need in order to run Spooky)? If you do, I can sign up under you!

I use 2CoolWeb they are studs. I have also had good luck with www.appliedi.net.

Gil, do you have ASP available yet?

Joe

I'm not for sure on which package to choose. I host with Go Daddy, so I didn't have a wide variety to choose from!

Godaddy is a great place to buy domain names, but a VERY limited place to host your site (as I am sure you found out )

Look at what features you need and buy accordingly. My personal account is from www.2CoolWeb and runs $99 per month. I get a lot of products to play with.

With www.appliedi.net (IMO) you get a good bang for your buck.

Exactly what products did you get with a $99 a month hosting package?

No, I still don't have a hosting service that allows me to write to databases, and support FrontPage extensions. I don't even know where to start, this is why I came here, I need help, and for a cheaper price (I know it's out there)!

I'm not sure I understand what you mean when you ask for a hosting service "...that allows you..." to wite to a database? We carry MySQL for certain plans, but we don't govern how or if or when stuff is "written" to it...

Clarify?

Tarhell,

What I am trying to say is that GoDaddy allows you to have ASP pages to send/read databases (.mdb to be specific), but you cannot write to them! I am looking for a cheaper service than $99.00 that has these same features!

There are dozens of host that offer the services you need for less than $99. Actually, I can only think of ONE off the top of my head that does not. So, the number is probably in the hundreds.

GoDaddy is the only one that I know of that will not allow DB writes.

www.2coolweb.com
Their cheap plan is $24.95 per month
5 gigs transfers, 100 megs disk space

www.appliedi.net
$24.95 for cheap plan
10 gigs and 150 megs disk space

www.acmeinternet.com
$19.95 per month
1 gig and 25 megs of disk space

www.orcsweb.com
$40 per month for their cheapest plan
2 gigs transfers, 100 megs disk space

I added the monthly transfer and disk space as a guide. It should not be used to rate a host. Orcsweb and 2coolweb are very popular with serious ASP developers. Acmeinternet host MS Hotmail (are part of it so I am told). The top techie (I think) at Appliedi is a moderator here in the server forums.

Look into Hostyard if you are looking for low cost. $59.95 per year with lots of features.
