Almost finished but... - 4/13/2004 17:33:21
I need some help. Before I add my graphics, I must fix a problem with my navigation menu. The bottom item is my Site Map. On My computer and a few others, this item is where it should be. On a couple of other computers, it is missing.
If I increase the size (height) of the applet a little it will show up fine. But unfortunately, it also will show an unwanted item (advertising link by the manufacturer of the applet) in the other computers that were okay before. All computers are running Windows XP and 98. I cant seem to find the coding that creates this ad text. Any ideas?
Also, any design help is appreciated. The box in the upper left hand corner will have a different image added soon.
Thanks.

Well, did you get the applet for free? If so, the condition is probably that you must display their advertising. to "get around" that is not ethical. you could look into purchasing an ad free version, or contact the owner since you are a non profit - they may give you the ad free version free of charge...

btw - I would try to use verdana or arial text - times new roman isn't as easy on the eyes when viewed on a monitor, especially when it is small.

Yup - a paid-for version will get rid of that ever so nasty sign of someone having done all kinds of work.

I really don't mind paying for it, but was curious why the height of the applet would view differently with different computers. Any idea? It was built using Front Page 2000.
And by the way, thanks for such quick help. This is a great site!

LOL.

I don't mind displaying that someone else did something - it's just that it usually detracts from the web design and looks tacky... I think that displaying it on a special page, either a "links" or "credits" page would be great. It would be nice if they give you that option.

Welcome to the world of the web. I don't know specifically the answer to your exact question, but lots of things render differently on different computers. Many things come into play - the operating system, the resolution, the browser version, the color settings on the monitor...you'll pull your hair out trying get your site to look 100% the same on every single computer.

Just a couple of things: -

Don't use Times New Roman for web pages, especially at 10px and bold, looks awful and difficult to read.

The top left image on the header, rather grainy, and looks, ummmm <thinking>...............................................</thinking>bad:). You need to remove the grainy effect and clear it up.

That should solve mt problems with it

Dan
