tables for forms or css only - 4/16/2004 7:57:27
just to open up that whole can of worms (tables vs *only* css) I was just wondering what the pure css 'zealots' use to layout out their forms, whether you use tables or *only* css.
p.s. this is a friendly question because i'm just curious!

I wouldn't say I'm a zealot but I decided to try and stick with css and xhtml.

What I've discovered. It takes me a lot longer to develop the site with css and get it working in all browsers. It takes a lot less time to do upgrades afterwards.

I now look at the individual site. If it's something that will be pretty static and I need to get it done fast, I go for tables. If it's likely to change from a design point of view or I have plenty of free time then I'll go for css.

Unless I'm basing the layout on a previous site then I just grab that.

Except for the site I've just taken on which is going to have to be all Flash. :)

This seems to be my week for commenting on cultural differences. :) LBG I'd be very careful about calling him a zealot. Over here, and for him in particular (long story,) its considered a deeply offensive thing to say about anyone.

He's a busy man he'll back when and as he can. I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. Mostly when he'll be back it'll only for a day or so anyway.

For the record - he uses whatever works in the circumstances, given his interest in accessibility he mostly uses css layour or linearised tables. You'll just have to wait for that chapter of his book to go online to learn more ...:)

I certainly meant no offense to him or anyone. He's been the main reason that i've become a css lover. zealot was certainly the wrong word to use - how about supporter. Again, my apologies, i just hadn't seen him around lately. whenever M is discussed, it always seems so secretive and special agent like. I just was wondering if he was spiderman or something. :)
