Ad copy site recomendations - 4/16/2004 13:10:59
Hello,

Looking for some great ad copy tutorials/FAQs/etc sites for learning how to create effective ad copy. I do not have a specific site or thought for a focus. Just general learning.

Thank you,

Brian

Google search:
quote:

ad copy tutorials
brought a lot of responses. Most seem to be more interested in selling something.

I added "free" to the Google search and the free didn't refer to the tutorials.

I suggest that you wait for a better response to this post.

I don't know of any good sites, but there are some excellent books that will allow you to gleem some ideas. Then, it is simply time to test > observe results > make changes > test again.

Books I have read and recommend:

"Persuasive Online Copywriting: How to Take Your Words to the Bank"

"The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference"

"Your Marketing Sucks"

"Don't Make Me Think: A Common Sense Approach to Web Usability"

I wouldn't call those good sites for ad copy... nothing you couldn't get from OF or Webmasterworld.

Hello,

Charles, yup. There seems to be a lot of hype (read marketing) on this and affiliate stuff that I have been researching the last few months but thank you for the post.

Erin, I'm totally up to speed on SEO. I normally hit page one for most semi competitive terms so I am set on that. I am more looking for ad copy for help on conversion of sales. This ties in with the affiliate marketing that I am going to start playing in.

Joe, I've heard of "Persuasive Online copy writing: How to Take Your Words to the Bank" before. I will start looking into prices and which one to start with.

I also have struck a deal with an ad copy writer for brochure. She even said it will differ between on line and brochures but that she would go over the basics with me for an hour or two of billing.

Any other thoughts? There has to be some gold beyond all of the hype.

Thanks for all the replies to this point I appreciate it.

Take care,

Brian

Brian,

I just read as much as possible and then experiment. I have different entry points for each ad I run. This way I can track conversion per ad per terms and then make changes and track those changes. I built over 100 entry pages for one site just for adword ads... subtle changes to each landing page based upon what the person typed to launch the ad.

Basically, I play with the landing page and the ads constantly. I once heard that the key to being successful with ad copy is to never be satisfied. Even if your getting a 75% conversion rate.... could you be getting 80%?

Joe
