Servers, NT vs Unix - 10/3/2001 15:49:00
I try to publish my FrontPage 2000 webs pages to an NT server. In the past ISP'S would charge extra for nt server ext. because they were unix based. Can the new 2002 frontpage html editor accommodate both nt and unix, or what is the best way to get around this. i know you can just ftp, but sometimes java scrpits are lost in the uploading to the remote server. Thanks, Tony Alexander------------------

I'm not sure I understand the question? Frontpage doesn't care what the server is, HTML is HTML no matter what the server platform is. If the server (Apache, Win, whatever) has the FP extensions then all the FP "bots" (features) will be fine if yoiu "publish" - if no extensions are present you will need to FTP to the server. I've never heard of a Javascript file getting "lost" during FTP? ------------------ Gil Harvey The Host Factory Resellers are our speciality "Indecision may or may not be my problem"

The issue of uploading to NT or Unix servers is moot. It's the same for both servers. Your concern should be whether the extensions are installed correctly and remain stable. The stability is in part dictated by how you manage your hosting account. Unix based? Hmmm... never heard that one.The reason hosting companies charge extra for them, especially on NT servers, is because they are a pain in the ass. nothing is self-administered on an NT server (or 2000) so anytime anything needs to be done someone has to do it at the server farm. HOWEVER, on a Unix box, or more precisely, Linux/Apache combination, it's much more stable (go figure...) and virtually all Linux/Apache setups are control-panel user-administered, which meakes it unnecessary to charge extra.
