Would Like A Quote for HELP on my website - 4/17/2004 15:40:47
I've been fighting with myself for several years in either learning how to develop the site I want, or to hire it out.
I've hired four developers and all of them took my money and ran. Actually, one promised to not charge me and then kept me waiting for six months, constantly promising it would be ready any day now.

I need someone out there that I will pay to do some work for me. I would like to keep it as simple as possible. I have Frontpage 2003 and I run several simple websites, but I want more.

If interested please buzz me back. The developers did leave me with my site at about 80% complete. The scripts and folders are already ready, but they just need to be tied together. I can upload you the work that has been done to see if you can complete it.

My biggest disappointment was one of the developers that I found on one of these forums. He spent more time giving free advice than in finishing my product. He did get paid up front and then just didn't want to finish the job.

So please let me know.
Here is what I want.
1. Signon- unique to all users. Information is kept in a database that approved members are allowed to look at. This allows members to know who else is a member.
2. Upload and download page, its already developed on my page, but you may have something better.
3. A forum, similar to this, I've got one on it, but again, you may not like it.
4. A detailed questionnaire that keeps the data. This data is then searchable by the members. and the data is attributed to them.
5. 2 listservers/mailing lists.

I have all of the above, except the database information. The developer created it all in a nice webpage but never fully tied it all together.

I look forward to hearing from people who are really interested and who will finish what they complete.

Thank you
Richard Hobbs

Welcome to the world of web design :)

You can do it, if you need a hand there's plenty of us around to pitch in but then you know that.

RE: Would Like A Quote for HELP on my website - 4/18/2004 12:39:56
I was contacted privately regarding posting my email address on the forum page.

That was very considerate of the writer.

Just to let the rest of you know. . .
I created this email address immediately before I posted it. Just so I wouldn't screw up and get spammed.

In the last day, i've gotten 2 dozen spams already. Thats a record.

So apparently some program out there scans these forums and sucks up the email addresses and then spams them.

I'll never give my regular email address to one of these forums.

So those of you have contacted me and wish to continue, use the email address of the emails I've sent to you, not the one I posted above.
:)
Thanks again.

Two dozen, by heck that's a record in that amount of time. Thanks for posting that, it might make others think twice before sticking their address on forums.

Might need to call in the special forces lol, DW dos not like this at all, it's been running a validation check on the whole site for the past hour, only gott 500 of the 844 HTML/ASP files, and well over 10,000 errors:)

Already got one on hire, I'll see how me and JB do on this. Should be fun:)

Umm, I'm gonna be sick lol

JB, Winzip got the number of files wrong:), it's not nigh on 1700 its more like 2300. It looks like every program but Adobe has been thrown at this. In excess of 20,000 errors in the coding HTML + ASP. It has the traits of a very bad web designer right through - No comments. Traits of FP and DW left all over. Spooky Login has been ruined. Snitz forum, hasn't been utilised to it's full potential. ASP files refer to Databases that aren't even there. One of the pages has an include with ASP coding, pointing to an DB - two problems, no DB, and no ASP coding to refer to a DB.

I ain't using FP for this, it will be FP friendly. If I don't post for the next six months, you know why:)

<edit>

Just had a peek in the images file. Three layoput directories, each with different colours on the images, ummm, choose one design and stick to it???????? Ring any bells people???? Snitz forum images have been copied into here. It has Bart showing a full moon (not explaining any further).

Basically, whoever had this site first has been extremely lazy, and the rest have taken one look and given it nope, I ain't touching that.

I said I'd sort it out, and thats exactly what I'm gonna do, even if I have to start from scratch

</edit>

ROTFLMAO

I only asked you to help me with the HTML coding lol. Just found 394 of the files, around 50% are Word Perfect Documents, one dodgy Visual Basic Form, a few MS Word docs, a few HTML docs, and a few images. The rest, I dunno what they are lol

Word Perfect! I remember that!

Pssst, give those to Lori. :)

Seriously though. I'm quite happy to help with the HTML as I said when you rang. It is a mess but not insurmountable especially for someone with your talents.

Well then, I won't beat around the bush since Jaybee gave me the opening...

Dan, I already have his site here, so full well know what kind of mess you are looking at.

Please get with me so that we can discuss Richards needs and I will let you know where I am on this, and you can do the same -- I know with us working together, Richard is going to be one happy guy!

Exactly. 3 login pages. Do we take a guess or just throw them up in the air and see which one lands first.

Dan et. al,

I assume you did get the links I sent that have the zip file I sent you. And the fact that the actual website is running right now, with all of the flaws that you have found.
I sent those to you personally and with the passwords to get into administration pages.

I can get the FTP if you need it, its just when I email the guy, he just zipped it up and sent it.

Perhaps if you saw how it was operating on the web right now it might help?.
but what do I know?

Just waiting and wondering and watching and hoping and praying and . . . .

Could you please have this disussion privately.
I really don't think it is appropriate to comment on other peoples work in a public forum.
Thank You
