Can A Host control A Googles Rating? - 4/17/2004 22:01:30
Hi,
I am perplexed over my Googles RATING that fluctuates by the minute.

Last week I was all excited, I graduated to a 6/10 -- at my web-site. The trouble is, whenever I make a change to my web site -- and check it to make sure that the change was correct when published, my Googles rating goes from a 6/10 to a 5/10. The next day, it is 6/10 again -- etc. like a teeter-tauter. This has never happened before, and I wonder if anyone else is having this problem, and/or if a hosting company could be causing it to happen -- or if there might be some error in my uploading to publish or in my copy somehow causing it?

Thanks for any help you can give ...
Richard Dudley

No.

This is more appropriate in the SEO forum, but here goes:

1) PageRank is not a rating, per se. It is an on-the-fly estimate of only one of the thousands of metrics Google uses to rank your page in the SERPs. You could have a PageRank of 10 and still show up below other sites with lower PageRanks. Focus your effort on creating a good site, not a tricky site.

2) Ignore PageRank on the Google Toolbar. Since it's an on-the-fly estimate, it's practically meaningless.

3) Google has several data centers that are not 100% in sync with one another. You really don't know which one you're querying. They have a tendency to return different results for the same query, even if performed closely together.

4) Visit www.highrankings.com for a complete scolding regarding PageRank madness.
