powersitedesign -> Yahoo -vs- Google (4/19/2004 14:21:28)

In my opinion, over the last couple of weeks since the switch over occured, I have noticed that just doing personal searches, I seem to get more relevant searches from Yahoo than I do Google.

I was just wondering if this was the overall consensus among the rest of you? I feel like Yahoo has done a great job w/ their own product. If they could get their webbots to crawl a little more frequently and correct the page titles more often In my opinion they would have it.

Just my opinions, but I was wondering what everyone else thinks.

Erin, I know you watch this stuff, what do you think?

Many people feel that Google shot itself in the proverbial foot with it's Florida update. They view SEO types as a thorn in their side and have made changes to purge out gamed sites. The problem is many gamed sites are also the most relevant sites - not to mention the collateral damage to countless other sites.

I find that Teoma is producing the best results for my searches.

powersitedesign -> RE: Yahoo -vs- Google (4/19/2004 18:32:19)

I have also been using Teoma also for some searches and I really like it as well. I hated to see Google shoot itself in the foot, because I used to really be a Google-Head!

... me too. It looks like $$ are starting to run Google.

What do you think of the amazon search engine A9? The beta version seems to work well and it has that lean look of early google. One to watch?

powersitedesign -> RE: Yahoo -vs- Google (4/19/2004 20:38:36)

I Love A9. I also like the idea that Amazon has the pocketbook to support / promote the engine. I also like the fact that it is very simplistic, in my opinion, the simpler the engine the better.

I am extremely anxious to see Amazon start promoting this thing in the mainstream media. I bet that when they do it will be a huge contender in a short period of time.

I have been wrong before... haha.

Mojo -> RE: Yahoo -vs- Google (4/19/2004 20:56:03)

I can't find much on A9 yet.... currently it is just a rehash of Google with some Alexa info scattered in the mix.

BobbyDouglas -> RE: Yahoo -vs- Google (4/22/2004 11:28:49)

I think Google is starting to have a few bumps in the road lately. So many of my searches bring me to another search engine that says find %What your searched for with Google% at 2020Search.com.

What a bunch of crap!

Google does have very skilled programmers, and I am sure they will be back up and very strong soon. Too many people like Google so much that everyone is trying to focus its SEO on Google alone!

I am suprised that the Google homepage does not add places for banners on their site. Boy would they be rollin' in the dough!

gorilla -> RE: Yahoo -vs- Google (4/22/2004 13:21:58)

Cotton and Joe like you I've largely given up on google for my own searching - too much cr*p and way too $$$$$ driven now. Its a pity because it used to be a good resource they've become IMO victims to short-termitis.

Switched to teoma now.

powersitedesign -> RE: Yahoo -vs- Google (4/22/2004 13:28:21)

I have been keeping an eye on teoma also for a while now. It looks promising. I agree w/ your opinions that Google is too $ motivated nowadays maybe.

"The competitor to be feared is one who never bothers about you at all, but goes on making his own business better all the time. - Henry Ford"

It seems to me that Google is worrying way too much about SEO types. The constant tweeking of it's algo is lessening the overall search experience.

RemodelingGuy -> RE: Yahoo -vs- Google (4/22/2004 15:13:06)

Call me the bump in the road, but as I optomized for Google over the last couple of years, I was able to able to keep very high placement in Yahoo after the split.

Google has been (IMHO) keeping it relevant and that suits me fine. Yahoo is killing me with their 5 paid sponsors above my #1 listings. [:-]

I think Google is doing just fine! (Keep the tossing to soft fruits and veggies. No hard objects please)

erinatkins -> RE: Yahoo -vs- Google (4/23/2004 10:30:35)

Hi Cotton,

To be honest I use to swear by Google - but I like the results in Yahoo better - they are more relevant in my opinion. I am using Yahoo more & more.

I am also hearing alot of good things about Amazons search engine.

Thanks
Erin

Hey folks,

The A9 returns 14 of the first 15 when searching for my book Modern Cabinetmaking!

Oops! This was Yahoo vs. Google...
