The gorilla invites comments on his forthcoming site - 4/19/2004 19:18:07
I am preparing to launch a free tutorial and template site. I would appreciate constructive criticism. It has been critiqued to death already but some more never hurts. Language Usage: Translated from Danish not yet proofed in English. Don't bother with taking the stylesheets yet btw - i haven't finished marking 'em up or commenting them wait a week or two and I'll be making the who shebang available freely and easily :-) Url = www.gorillasguides.com

Some text overlapping on the alternative style sheet Yes, I noticed that as well. Also, the narrative on the title section seems a little on the large side for me. There also seems to be a lot of white space which did lead to a bit of eye strain after a while although I'm not sure how far down the design path you are. Andy

I am not surprised in the least that you have offered up a perfect and compliant version of your "basis design" - In fact I much prefer your non graphic look as opposed to the original. Very crisp. I don't think there is any picking to do here. I think you have done wonderfully with your English - and only found spot, here on your alternative layout that that had a err in the spelling: "This is an main lesson" ---- This of course should have an "A" rather then "AN" there :) The links expand on hover and make the text jump around (but I am sure you know that) I am more then excited for your launch and will be making use of what you have to offer, and then utilizing your approach to this, as you have proved yourself (to me) many times over on this board, that you are a wonderful educator, and a programmer to immulate. As Deb already knows, the past three weeks of my spare (not much of) time has been in the redevelopment of my Zenful Creations site into full CSS. I can thank the Zen Garden for showing me that all CSS based design does in fact NOT all look the same, and that your options with it are limitless. With that said, I am am sure that your site will be an adventageous learning point for myself and many more, and I thank you for the time that you put in to such a resource.

Looked at it in IE6 and Firebird. Love the colors and layouts. Good commenting in your html and css. Everything displays okay in Firebird but in IE when you mouse over the links on index.html the text gets out of whack. Looking forward to the completed site. How do you find the time??

gorila, do you want to put that site on one of my servers in the US? I have a very low serverload at the moment.

Very interesting site, I look forward to learning a lot from this resource. It loaded quickly in Firefox, IE and Opera. I like the fluid design which works particularly well at small window sizes. That's an advantage of not using images, but as a personal view I like to see some images on the page, it breaks up the text and makes it easier for the "intellectually challenged" amongst us (like me) to read and understand. I looked at your source code and style sheets, and I must say that I feel a bit like the 2001 caveman banging his thigh bone on the monolith! I've picked up a few tips so far, but I hope that you eventually are able to add some sort of "idiot's guide" explanation of how you achieved some of this... for instance I couldn't work out how you are controlling the vertical position of your content & footer divs, the only "top"dimensions I could see were for the sidebar and the header links. As someone who is just starting to understand a bit of css, perhaps I am not as up to speed as your target audience, but I think people at my level would benefit from a tutorial on using cross browser compatible code and the same style sheet for all browsers. My first efforts look brilliant in firefox, not so good in opera and like **** in IE. Your site looks great in all three! I will follow the progress of your excellent site with great interest.
