Error with Email form (possibly accessing shtml.dll?) - 4/20/2004 10:51:01
I'm having a problem with an email form on my webpage. The site is hosted at an external vendor, so I don't have access to any server logs. Here is the problem. I have a regular form on a page with a submit button which should send the results of the form to me. When you click on the submit button, a login box pops up, asking for a username and password. If I click cancel, the URL switches from http://my.website.com/contact.html to http://my.website.com/_vti_bin/shtml.dll/contact.html and I get the following error message "You are not authorized to view this page You do not have permission to view this page using your current user account. Please try the following: If you have another user account with a higher level of permission, click your browser's Back button to try again using that account. If you believe you should be able to view this page, contact the Web site administrator. " HOWEVER, if I type in the username and password which I use to author the website into the login box, the form submits and I receive the email in my inbox. I'm guessing this is some sort of permissions error, but the people at the hosting company aren't very well versed at FP extensions, so I really have to spell out exactly where to go and what to do. Has anyone run into this before?? PLEASE, let me know if you have any ideas. I've been spinning on this for a couple of weeks and nearing my last thread of sanity. Thanks in advance!!

Hi Wildman, A URL for your form page would be helpful. This could be a permissions, extension or properties issue.

Sorry, here it is... http://www.keysafetyinc.com/general/contact.htm I had the admin take out the "Integrated Windows Authentication" and now the login box doesn't come up anymore, but I still get the "not authorized" error. Please let me know if you can think of anything...

Hey Wildman, This looks like it might be a permission problem at the server level. But, before going there, try changing your form page to a location in your root web, to see if this makes a difference. It is currently http://www.keysafetyinc.com/general/contact.htm I think if the page were in the root as http://www.keysafetyinc.com/contact.htm it might work.

Mystic - Thanks for the reply, but it's still a no-go. I put it in the root of the web, but I still get a login prompt. I did try and throw an ASP email form out there which uses CDONTS, and that worked, so I think I'm gonna rewrite the page in ASP...
