multipede -> subwebs created by Web Host (10/15/2001 19:55:00)

Hello,
I am using FP2002 and publishing to an Apache host with the FP2000 extensions installed but with the "create/rename/delete" subweb feature disconnected.
My web host has created a subweb for me which has a user id and password and appears to be "write" only.

My problem IS I can't seem to get my FrontPage to open it up! I have attempted opening up the published site in FrontPage and then clicking on the subweb. Naturally, it asks for my user id and password but rejects them.
FrontPage asks me if I want to create a web there but, obviously, it can't get in to create it.

What can I do?

Thanks for your anticipated help,

Nigel

My suggestion would be to get a new host. It's best to get one with some experience hosting FrontPage Webs.

Unix based hosts almost all let you create your own subwebs and manage your own permissions. That's the primary advantage (for FP users) of being on Unix.

Thanks for your reply Thomas.

Well...I've had the UK Microsoft guy on to this problem and, with his help and a couple of instruction sheets, my provider has acknowledged that he will be making everything as it should be.

Out of interest I DID find that there WAS a security problem with creating subwebs in FP1998 and, obviously, it has now been properly explained that FP2000 extensions do NOT have this problem.

I must point out that I am getting a VERY good deal...2000 megs for an ADULT site for three years for $4,500 so I am prepared to put up with less technical knowhow at their end.

However, for the sakes of all your members, deals like this do mean that an inexperienced webmaster, like myself, MUST have a good IT friend to hand...which I have!

Thanks for your time,

Nigel
