First Client site - Template - 4/21/2004 16:55:52
I would just like opinions on the template for Georgia Attorney Personal Injury. All links are dead, and sorry about the ack of content, but Richard will be viewing the site here as well, and I would like you lot help him on telling me what needs adding/removing etc.

Please note: The home page is mainly ASP coding, and run from a database, and I require the client to input info when the site is handed over.

Please excuse the ads at the bottom, I am using my 1ASPhost account as a temp host., it won't be there on the final thing.

URL: http://aa.1asphost.com/giomanach/client/GAPI/option1

Cheers

Dan

Hi Dan

The site looks a little bland to me (needs an input of colour) and everything looks a little on the large side (font size, menus and heading)

Have you got your strong glasses on Andy or does the cider have that effect? :)

I don't think it's that, maybe something to do with the logo? The strap line is a bit fuzzy for one. I'm not sure. I think maybe the box it's in needs to be deeper and the logo dropped down a bit more.

I'll have a ponder.

Andy

It ain't big, you hiiting the cider again?

JB - I have an alternate logo, but it's pretty much the same size, just darker with differemt styles on the fonts

I have a couple of images to implement, but I have to play with them first

LOL - it does sometimes have that effect :)

I still think everything looks too big. In the cold light of day, I would probably leave the font size alone, but would definitely reduce the font size of the menus and headings and possibly the graphic at the top. It all seems a little top heavy to me

I hate IE!!!! lol. Wrote the site in notepad, and used Firefox to view. The top graphic is a PNG with Transparencies, and the transparent bit comes up grey, a darker grey than the background!!!!!! How d'ya do transparecies on GIFs in Photoshop??? That ones done in Fireworks

I agree with Andy, it does look a bit top heavy - the top graphic also looks as if it is sliding off the top of the page.

In general as the site is to do with personal injury you may want to reconsider the choice of background colour, is there enough contrast with the text to allow ease of reading?

Also many people have dificulties with the red/green area of the spectrum, they will just perceive it as grey; so you will have grey text on a grey backgound. Not very helpful?

Templates are the very devil to put together, aren't they? But crucial to get right and invaluable when they are.

I am sure it will be brill at the end, though.

:):):)

I made the backround grey to take the strain off of the eyes. Shall make links black. No need to recode to whole page, I've been lazy and used includes:)

Any ideas for the top graphic then?

I chose the greys b'cos - contemporary, easy on the eyes, and is more biz like that birght flashy colours, plus, they wouldn't suit the site anyway

why not do your gif in fireworks from your original fireworks png (NOT the exported one), try 100% dither and 256 colours. set your canvas colour to match the page bg colour then choose index transparency under export options.

ah if only IE was a proper browser and had full alpha transparency support for pngs...

B'cos if I do that, it doesn't have enough colours for the greyscale, aznd you get the awful lines where the colour changes, not a smooth gardient

how about link colours as the same as the blueish purple in the GAPI of the logo (you might need to darken it a bit)

also, although the page resizes nicely it' makes the text width too wide at higher screen res. how about a small column around 20% width on the right with some contact info or news bits or other snippets? even a pic? then you can chuck a load of padding in between that and the main content area conatining the text.

Umm, this site is going to have Snitz forum integrated, I'm working on that at the mo (click the forums link), I need the design to look flawless. Which means, the layout must be the same all round, if I was to do that, it would mean I have to do some more customisation on the forum, joy:)

I'll give it a whirl. When I get home though, don't have the necessary software to do it here. Also must remember to have a bash at a logo for Kitka

<edit>
Please excuse the Forum Home Link, yes I edited the link, but I didn't set it to index1.asp, I'm working with his current forum

Righto peeps, finished the second template ish, It's got some of the details asked for here in it, and a different top logo. I am still working on it. Best viewed through anything but IE:)

URL: http://aa.1asphost.com/giomanach/client/GAPI/option2

Again, please excuse the lack of content, and the ads etc.

Comments etc. I am still adding to the page, so if it doesn't work, it's cos I'm editing it.

Cheers

Dan

PS - Carol, I haven't had a chance to look thru that site yet, will do tomorrow @ work:)

I never really care for the less graphical web sites, but it definately does need something added to it. Maybe make the left side area have a different background color to it. That way it will stand out more.

quote:

About Us | Privacy Policy | Contact Us | Site Map

Should be in the center of the page.

I think a little bit brighter color would look better. I dislike the large bold font of News, Announcements, and Messages.

It looks like a nice template for a blog site, but not quite there for an attorney.

Guys

Maybe I should have explained this earlier, but my goal here is to:

Merge this and this

And revamp the two.

It's more of an online community for the paintiffs rather than a site for an Attorney

Next:

quote:

About Us | Privacy Policy | Contact Us | Site Map

Should be in the center of the page

If I do that, it will clash with the copyright and development info, plus it looks outta place in the middle

quote:

It looks like a nice template for a blog site,

Client asked to be able to blog on the site.

quote:

I think a little bit brighter color would look better. I dislike the large bold font of News, Announcements, and Messages.

Are you viewing through IE?

Shirley - Shall try to put that in later, Thank You

Having looked at both I think I prefer "this" more than "this".

Although "this" has its good points, "this" is more aesthetically pleasing.

Does that help? :)

Righto peeps, uploaded updtaed version of Template 2. Web address is the same.

What I want to know:

1. Opinions

2. Does the left content look fine as is, or do I need to shove it up a bit?

3. Does the left content need some more padding on the left?

4. Alterations?

5. Does the forum look OK?

Cheers

Dan

When I try to visit, I got the following message what am I doing wrong:

Bandwidth quota exceeded for the day. The web site would work again after 24 hours.

Members are given an initial bandwidth quota of 1000 MB monthly. Sites a monitored on a daily basis and would work again after a 24 hour time frame. We offer our members unlimited bandwidth, to request unlimited bandwidth please contact technical support with your web site URL.

You're not doing anything wrong. Dan's host only gives him a limited amount of bandwidth each day and he's run out.

They stop the site from loading until the next day when he gets his new lot of bandwidth allocation.

A point to be aware of if you are doing websites. If your host only allows say 1Gb per month and you get a lot of visitors, you'll get the same problem.

can't you get any free hosting with unlimited banwidth e.g. tiscali, virgin or somone? i know you only get around 15mb of space but it's enough for a few sites when they are in the testing stage

Dave - Original reason for going with 1ASPHost - 100MB web space, unlimited bandwidth. I can always contact them and ask for it to be upped to unlimited
