Avick -> Visitors Choose the style (4/23/2004 11:31:42)

Not sure if this was posted before. Had a look and can’t find it.

I want to setup 3 links on my site so visitors can choose the style they would preffer.
Something like (Blue, Green, Orange)

When they click the link, the style of the site changes to the one they like. It will also stay at that colour the next time they visit.

Any Ideas!!

Alan

You will need to create the site three times, and split it off so each colour scheme has it's own folder. Then you will need to create three stylesheets with different coloursa ssigned to them. when you create the site, you will just have to offer them three links giving them the choice of your chosen colours

Any Good?

Dan

I think you are looking for Style Sheet Switching

Now that sounds like a waste of perfectly good server space. *S* As well as a totally wrong answer. If you think about your answer Dan, I'm sure in just a few seconds you'll be hanging your head in shame that you even posted that. (Hint: Ever been to a forum that allows you to pick your "skin"? How do you think they do that?)

As for how to do this Alan, there are a variety of ways. I'm providing a link to some information about the options, and you can see what might match your needs. Some methods use javascript, some use server-side scripting, so you'll want to look at what might work best for you.

I blame it on work. A boring job will do that to you.

My bad - totally

Note to self - drink more coffee to wake up during work hours

Ahhhhh, so now I know why he phones me.

It has nothing to do with my scintillating wit and conversation.

That is sooooooo not true lol. It's to discuss business, although it would make sense[:D]

I've done this before using an ASP scripted page that populates an inline style sheet from a database...

Visitors can select a particular style, then get cookied so that each time they come back their choice is remembered.

But it turned out to be a lot more work than it was worth. I think I still have a sample up here: http://www.bdwebservices.com/development/dragonworx/dragonstyle/dragonstyle.asp

It hasn't been touched in ages, but it looks like it still works.. LOL

Also, this has been mentioned many times, but check out the style switching on http://www.csszengarden.com/ - choices are along the right side of the page... VERY slick!

Eric Meyers also has a site that has the styles listed on the right side of the page. I just don't remember which of his sites has it.[&o]
