Newbie question - 4/24/2004 19:58:05
Hi all....

OK.. I am starting the CSS process by removing fonts and setting td attributes. I am holding off on tables for now.

I would like to control my td widths from my style sheet. I would like to do this by using percentages. But if I am keeping my tables in the HTML, what should my td percentages be referencing. If I want a td to be 30%, where do I say 30% of "what"?

Am I making sense. Sometimes I have problems making sense:)

Thanks!!!!

It's quite simple, within your class for the td you merely have:

.cell{
width: 30%;
}

And define the class on the cell:

<td class="cell">

Thanks for going the "extra" mile!

Just like when I decided to go database/ASP with my site, I have a feeling this will all seem pretty easy when I look BACK on it!

It's just knowing the rules!

Just keep going and if you get discouraged or stumped, just ask away, someone will be able to help you with an answer or a link!

Make sure you explicitly style your table elements. IE has a well known inheritance bug for tables. So be certain you apply the relevant styles to the cells
