Oh Hairy one

I am absorbing the CSS tutorial!

I felt lost at the end of page 1 when I read "That is all there is to it!"
I thought I had missed something.

I think I was looking for the example as to how it looked.
So I did the old cut & paste thing into the wysiwyg (after a wash in notepad) so I could see the result.

So Yes! there needs to be a bit more of an instruction there for the "novice" & me about cut & paste & "time for the reader to now have a go for themselves" which makes it a bit more interactive.

It's the weekend here already!..............

Thanks Garry, its people who are beginnning at this that I really want to aim this site at, so your input is much appreciated.

I'm getting the IA sorted out and putting up the first "real" lesson this weekend. So the preview and "here you are I make it easy for you to "steal" :) the code" but will go in.

I'll admit that my sense of humour ran away with me on the text for one lesson. I do the steps as a list, so I sent off a heap of 'em for someone to read." Her reply was this:

quote:

Putting in "panic" as step one and "reach for the valium" as step 6 is completely unacceptable!

I don't know why that's what nearly everyone does and I was only trying to conform to "industry standards.:)"

I have to agree with you there Big G. My lecture notes would bore the pants off some of the students if I just gave them out as is. We've just, as a College, been through the inspection nightmare and one of the things they are very hot on is making the lesson interesting and wherever possible, fun.

If it's just a load of facts thrown out, although you are meeting the course requirements as laid down by the awarding body, they will hand out an unsatisfactory grade.

One of my classes on how the internet works was accomplished by having them all charging round the building handing each other bits of paper. They came back worn out and laughing and they all passed their exam.

I'll admit I've never understood the educational theory that it must be boring. It has always seemed to me that as long as they learn it and your standards are rigorous it is surely better for them to enjoy themselves. But then I'm just a grumpy old gorilla. Well, middle-aged, I only date back to the devonian after all :-)

Probably more for Jaybee, but something here for everyone.

An accountant giving a lecture on taxation laws (by powerpoint), threw in the odd photo of some holidays he went on and apparently those at the lecture were refreshed after each "inapropriate image" enough to absorb the actual real content of the lecture.

The difficult part is getting the balance right. I once went to a lecture where the speaker came on and said he had mislaid his briefcase with all his notes in and he was therefore going to do his whole talk "off the cuff".

He then proceeded to literally read off his cuff. As he went on, he pulled more and more of his shirt sleeve out of his jacket. It was really funny but I can't for the life of me remember what he said. I was far more interested in how much sleeve was going to appear.

This is my first look, and here are my initial reactions.

First, thank you for creating such a site. I know it will be helpful to so many.

Here's sort of a visual critique:

I love everything about is, the color scheme, layout, simplicity. Saying that, I like the font usage and text sizse best on the CSS Basics Lesson page. I prefer that to the styles and sized used on the CSS Intro page (ie. the serifed font). You could decide on which you personally liked best and make everything more consistent. An added benefit is that the header area wouldn't jump around so much when you go from pape to page.

On the lesson page itself, you could use a back-to-top link at the end of each section (basics, structure, function, etc).

Very, very nice job. btw, this is too cool!:
