As I fall on my sword - 4/27/2004 18:26:40
Last time I asked you guys to look at a site, I wondered why people always bring tomatoes to throw. Ah well, I guess I'm a glutton.

XAOSTWENTYONE.COM

to quote Real Genius, "Lemme have it!!!"

Hi :)

Overall (and I am sure you will not be surprised) I like it - good color, nice and tight layout. Good Job.

Now....

- The bottom links, I would remove the underline in the css as they touch the bottom and make it looked squished in.

- I personally would stay with the same font you are using for your paragraphs for your links - the text difference to me is a bump in the road - maybe instead have the inline links set as the same font, but bold and the color of your green header.

- I see ARIAL specified in your CSS)- however the top paragraph of your WEBWORK, FAVORITES and CONTACT are showing Tahoma. Did you mean to do that?

- I would uncenter the top text on the CONTACT page; I would put the comment box to the right of the word comments (as are done with the others) and adjust the size of the comment form field so that it closeley matches in size with the other box. Also, the bottom text is in the table with the form - I would put it UNDER that table so that it does not wrap under.

Other then that - wtg!

'bout time you posted one of your sites.

Home-
The header looks very nice and professional. I love how you added the background color changed upon mouseover- just love it.

As I scrolled down on the first page I noticed that the centered text is starting to look a little bit ugly. My personal preference is to not have short fragments centered if you have a sentance. That is just my preference, if you are happy with the centered text I would leave it.

I notice a the content links are the same color as the default font, except the links have an underline. I suggest you try to avoid having the same color link as you do normal font. I think you would be way better off by hacing a purple/green link as th e default state.

The footer for this page is somewhat hard to read. Black on a dark green does not go well together. I would highly suggest going with a non-underlined white text in 1 size bigger font than the current state. When you rollover it, it has an underline and nothing else.

Lastly, I think you could use a few <br>'s at the top of the template so it sticks down a bit. This will show the top edge of the template, I think this would really add a few nice finishing touches to the template itself. After you change that, delete a few of the extra lines at the bottom of the template. It looks like something else could go their, but there isn't anything on it.

Webwork+Favorites+About-
Very nice font, I think it fits well with the template. One problem I notice right away is when you click on one of the images to goto another site it does not open in a new window, thus meaning this person has left your site.

The only other problem I notice on this page is the green line/bar that is on the right side of the content area for the page.

Right under the:
quote:

Silver Screen Photography
SSP is a Dallas/Ft.Worth and surrounding cities wedding photographer. This was a complete rebuild of an existing site.
area.

The line/bar should be above that text, and likewise for the rest of that page. I think it looks better when it is on top, instead of the bottom.

The layout of this page looks very very nice, much better than the home page :)

Contact-
Again, I think that a nice white font color would look a lot better for the areas that have green background.

On this page I notice that your e-mail address is not encrypted. I think this is something that must be done to every e-mail address. There are just too many bots that spam the e-mail addresses that it picks up. I have noticed a lack of spam recently after I did the same with my site.

Lastly, I think the title of the page should reflect on the page you are visiting. It shouldn't stay the same.

You also might want to fix the form to submit correctly. I think that sums up everything, if you have any questions about my suggestions feel free to ask.

Very nice job btw. :)

I put all my tomatoes away. Honest.

Nice site. Any comments I have are covered above.

You have inspired me to complete my own site which is still halfway done as far as content. Must be able to fit the time in somewhere. I think. Perhaps. Maybe.

I also like it, quite a lot but I have to agree with lori about the form.

I wouldn't lose the underline I'd just give yourself some extra padding.

I don't like the centred text on the index page. I tend to dislike it anyway and to me visually it detracts quite badly from your index page. I'd left align it and shift it right quite a bit. But thats me.

You need to change this text:

quote:

Third Floor North version2
For all intensive purposes, this was version two of the site. It was a graphic enhancement of the original and a normal navigation structure without all of the code.

Thanks all for the suggestions. I'll be making updates soon.

Lori, why would I assume you liked it. It could have sucked pretty badly. :)
I think the bottom nav depends on the browser. IE was the only one i found that did that. If you look in other browsers, there's plenty of room, but I'm going to get rid of the underline and make the links white to stand out more, like Bobby suggested. I'm also not seeing where you find Tahoma. I thought i removed all instance of font type from the HTML and put it all in the style sheet.

Everyone suggested moving the index text somewhere else (away from centered. I agree since there isn't much text, it does look a bit broken up, but won't that little amount of text look off if it's set to one side? And bringing it to the middle a little more, aligned left, like Gorilla suggested will leave an awful amount of white space on both sides. I was thinking about the width of the graphic above the text, maybe a little wider.

Bobby,
Bottom links - another font - do you mean the same font as on the page, but not uppercase? Cause the font actually is the same. And i'm taking your color and underline suggestion. I also thought about the page breaks from the top, but wasn't sure. Your comments just reassure me that it's a good idea. Probably balances it out a bit and i'll get rid of some of that blank space at the bottom too. I'll also open off-site links in new windows. The bar you're talking about putting on top instead of bottom - the lined green bar separating each group? looks like a candycane on it's side? I'll also change the font color on the contact. How do i encrypt the email addy? How is the form submitting incorrectly?

Jaybee, thanks, i hate tomatoes to begin with. Worse so when they're being thrown at me.

And the big guy, dunno what i was thinking when i said intensive. I think that's how i thought it was really spelled. Guess since i make the comment about being moderatly well spoken was just shot down there!

thanks all for the compliments!
Lil
