dragonseye -> Win 2003, IIS 6 & Front Page 2002 Problems (4/29/2004 14:10:29)

Hello
I am having a tough time with win 2003 and front page extentions. Hopefully someone will have an answer. Fist off I am running win 2003 Web Edition and have installed IIS 6 & Front Page 2002 server extentions. There are sites currently running on this server and they work fine.

First after all of the instructions out on the web they all say to go to the share point administrator to extend a site. It seems like sharepoint is not installed but when i go into IIS 6 and configure the FP2002 that all comes up just fine. When i try to extend a site it gives me this error

Error 5 opening registry key "Software\microsoft\shared tools\web server\extentions\secure\/lm/w3svc/SiteNumber"

after doing some searching i have found the microsoft simple fix for this which says to play with the application pools & restart. This has been done restarted uninstalled, reinstalled ..... the works. I still get the same error.

Could it be a security issue?
or is there sompthing to that registry key missing? I have looked in the registry it really doesnt exist. but if this is the case how do I create or add that key?

Thanx ahead of time for anyone who can help...

Welcome to Outfront

Any chance of seeing the server error reports?

Looks like some of the components for Sharepoint are missing

Dan

Oh my gosh. I'm not the only one... I've tried the microsoft fix (didn't help). Restarted the services, restarted the server, all with no luck. Sounds we are both in the same boat. Bump in search for an answer.

are you talking about the registry fix here?

Before modifying the registry, it is highly recommended that you back it up, or set a restore point, so you can undo anything that goes awry [:o]

To add a new key to the registry, navigate to the nearest existing "folder" that you can. From there you can add keys until your path looks the same as the one in the article.

Personally, I think you need to pursue the IIS solution and not anything with Sharepoint, unless you are using sharepoint...[&:][;)][8|]

Actually... I tried this fix: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=833699

I didn't try to mess with the registry. I did check to make sure the local computer had access to it, but that's it.

This still seems to be saying that the registry can't be opened by the account or:

that the key doesn't exist

does the key exist?

Being that the server has full control rights over the registry, it should be able to create a registry without problems.

But no, it does not have that key by default, I tried to create a key actually, but that did not work either.
