Frontpage Server Extensions / Form Processing - 4/29/2004 19:38:24
using Windows 2003 & IIS 6: I have a few websites on a server. I tested the form on one website - it works. Now on another webiste - I am getting this error: Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions: Error #3005f Message: Unable to read configuration for Microsoft Internet Information Server. Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions: Error reading IIS default Vroot info when trying to processing the form. The user sees Cannot run the FrontPage Server Extensions on this page: "http://www.partydollproductions.com/about/confirm.html" I am not too sure what is going on here - I am thinking about doing the contact form for her in Jmail but I would like to know what I can do to fix this for her. Thanks!

Hey Corey, When you had the form working on another server was it in a folder, subweb or in the root. I see a lot of people having problems with forms in subwebs etc rather than in the root web. Seems like the extensions aren't getting through to the form or vice versa. I see this quite a bit in the direct questions I get elsewhere. Once the form is placed in the root, it generally works. BTW, hope things are well with you.

Hey Michael - things are good - thanks! Well would be better if it would work. The first contact form was in the root. The other was just in a folder (not a sub-web). I did move it & try it - no go. Which I guess now also brings me to another interesting point... She tried to create an art gallery but it is not working either - I just remembered that. How are things with you? :)

Ah Shirley.. Hm where would I go to find this info? Everything that I see is enabled :) I have even uninstalled the extensions on there (that was a big mistake) but stilll nothing. Since I finally remembered about the art gallery - that does make me thing it is not enable. The FP extensions are not enabled on the default web site (nothing is in there) - should I make it enabled there?

I didn't have time to go out and look at my server to see the exact steps but I found this in another post To enable parent paths In IIS Manager, expand the local computer, right-click the starting-point directory of the application you want to configure, and then click Properties. Click the Directory tab, and then click Configuration. Click the Options tab. In the Application configuration section, select the Enable parent paths check box. Click OK.

For the forms to work you also have to configure an email address in the extensions.

Enable Parent Paths was enabled. The email / SMTP server is also enabled as well. :-/

Now to make things even worse - I put on a new client today http://www.jadha.com & the FP extensions work on there. Should I make delete the Party Doll Account & start over on it?

I had to do that on one of my sites. I never could "Fix" it once it got messed up. I deleted the whole site, started over and everything is fine. I think I must have made a mistake when I set it up the first time and never could get it fixed. Mine had to do with users and permissions and no matter what I did I could not get it to work right until I deleted it and started over.

Well I have done it three times - and still does not work. How many times do I need to keep deleting it? LOL

No - it is under the ISAPI Filters. When you click that - you will see a low priority. I think this is what it is supposed to say (all my other sites do). But the problematic one says unknown. (I have the same tabs like tp00 does). IIS 6.0 added a few things & moved some things around. :) Hm, when you update - good luck!! :) It is something along these lines: http://www.kbalertz.com/Feedback_237471.aspx or even closer: http://www.kbalertz.com/Feedback_319305.aspx but IIS 6.0 does not have that - at least I have yet to find it
