I keep getting an error message when I try to publish - 5/2/2004 14:46:12
Hi I updated my site yesterday evening and all was fine. I've just tried to publish again as I've updated the site again, but I keep getting the following error message:- Server error: The page Index.htm has been modified by (unknown) on 01 May 2004 19:48:53 + 01:00. The only option I have is to click OK which closes the publishing box. When I view the web site, the updated pages have been changed expect for the home page (index.htm) Just before this message appears I'm advised that certain files have been altered and I'm asked if I want to accept the changes (Yes or No) Firstly, the files I'm asked if I want to accept changes for, have not been altered by me and secondly, I know the site was updated on 1 May as it was me that updated it I've never had this problem before. Any clues as to why this is happening and how I overcome it so that I can update my home page. I'm using Frontpage 2002. Yve http://fp.ymv13.plus.com

I would delete the index file off of the server, and try to publish it again. Make sure you have a backup of the file before you delete it though.

Sorry to be dense, but is it straight forward to delete and then re publish? I have my whole site backed up. If I delete index.htm, do I just open it from the back up and save it again in the web? Yve

If you delete the index file on the server and publish it using the index file on your computer, it should be fine. but is it straight forward to delete and then re publish? - yes If I delete index.htm, do I just open it from the back up and save it again in the web? - You open FP and click publish.

Frontpage isn't smart enough to realize that the only thing changed on a page was by a visitor! It could be things like scripts or the like, but you want to tell it that the page that you have on your computer, is the one that needs to get saved on the server. Also, don't delete anything, that's not the cause of the problem.
