Publishing problems - server error - 5/4/2004 9:06:59
Hi I'm trying to publish a site to a third party ISP I've got the site working at that destination previously & now I'm trying to complete the site. I get this error message quote:
unable to open www.sitename Server Error: Server error: Error2 opening registry key "SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\ Web Server Extensions\Ports\Port 80". Possible causes. 1. the web server may not have FP Extens installed etc etc etc My ISp has uninstalled & reinstalled FP extns a couple of times but still no luck. Straneg because I have previously uploaded the site. I thought it may be me but I have successfully posted the entire site to another location (actually held by the same ISP) Does anyone have any ideas? thanks

FP uses PORT80, same as the TCP/IP, you will need to alter the port that FP uses for it to work correctly when connecting to a third party server, lemme see if I can find it later on. Either that, or something recently installed is hogging Port80, still lemme see what I can find Dan

however ... I can use FP to publish to any other destination with any number of sites. It just seems strange that its just this one particular URL with any of my sites.

when publishing, try this publish to: http://www.yourdomainname.com or http://www.yourdomainname.com/ note the trailing slash quote:
FP uses PORT80, same as the TCP/IP, you will need to alter the port that FP uses for it to work correctly when connecting to a third party server this is incorrect. TCP/IP is a suite of protocols, all using different ports. Frontpage publishing uses port 80 to publish over HTTP, and if it can't do that it will try FTP on port 21.
