and my forums:
http://www.dragonslairforums.co.nr

What do u think i can improve? If it has something to do with the navigation, I am working on it at this very moment :)

I'd like to see a more gothic text for the header and for your graphic. Plus, it would be nicer to not have to scroll down for the information, expecially for your returning users....

I don't understand a thing u are telling me :)

The gothic text, what do u mean? The font?

The scrolling down, is that for the front page, that takes you to all the different sections?

Yeah--the font really doesn't fit for a "dragon's lair".

"gothic" wasnt' the rigth word; but something more "dragony" LOL: try this on for size. It's just a quickie thing and I'm sure you'll get more ideas from others...

And yes, I was referring to the main page. Too much scrolling for my taste...

Hiya,

You can make some pretty cool logos for free at

www.cooltext.com

They even have some fiery ones and you can change colours, fonts background the works. When I checked it out just now it was having problems, either that or there really were 2396 people rendering logos in front of me. :)

Anyway, give it a look. Hopefully it'll be sorted soon. I've used it a few times in the past.

The renovation is complete and I have done all the changes as you have suggested to the best of my ability on the front page.

The new 'version' of my website will be uploaded within 12 hours after this message has been posted.

I'll post another one if i don't get a reply anyways. Then can you please give me some more suggestions on how to improve?

Thanx alot for your help guys!

Hi there - right off the bat, I'd suggest you make your fonts for your text a wee bit smaller and don't center it. That will cut down drastically on the scrolling too. I'd use the size 5 font for headings/titles, and use either 2 or 3 for the text.

Nice hobby site. I wanna check out more. :-)

Don't you think that people that find small texts to read would have a problem? Besides, the whole site may take more time than i would even imagine!

Maybe only the front page? So that people can go to directly where they want to?

since they have the ability to increase or decrease the size of the font via their browser options, i'd leave it alone. Maybe throw in some pictures on the main page with all the links. A pic for a couple of links to give your viewers something to visually look forward to along with the links. Just an idea.

I would definitely do it on the front page. I forgot about how big the rest of the site is, so I'll take back my comment. ;-)

But in the future, avoid centering your text for anything other than titles/headings. the body/paragraphs/lists etc look much better left aligned.

If it were me, I'd take a few pages a day and just highlight it all and click the "left align" button. Or you could do a find/replace and look for all align="center" and replace it to align="left" but that would make EVERYTHING left aligned.

Of the two, I'd rather have everything left aligned than center aligned.

nope - I saw it on several pages under your computer help section. Not all but quite a few. I haven't had a chance to look at all the pages in that category or in other categories, but I did see enough "centered" to make note of it.

ok. Ill take a closer look at it! How does the new index page look now. I made the font smaller, and removed the centring. Amazingly, I did it blindly, without using a rich text editor. Only the source!

Thanx alot for ur help. I also found another bug in the website. Whenever you have a frames page, and click on the link that takes you to the forums, the frame still remains! I thinks it the target parent setting i have to choose in the hyperlink to fix this problem!

yep, you need target="_top" in there to avoid that.

isn't it the target="_parent" to solve that problem? Or does this have the same effect?

Hmm. I don't know. That was what I was told when I asked how to make links break out of a frames site. :)

The frames on my site say: Target="_parent"

here:
http://dragonslair.europe.webmatrixhosting.net/Jokes/Jokesf.htm

this is the frame for the jokes section, which makes the page break out of the frame when going back to home.

I'll try it on front page and tell you the difference!

I've just had a great time in your site.
The crystal ball is funkiest Thing.
It would seem that you really want to get this site rocking and it is very clear how much dedication you have for it!
Your real challenge now is to get in place a structured navigation system. I have followed a number of your threads here but can't recall if you are using front page (but im sure as you are in this forum you are) If FP is your chosen editor, to set up a navigation system is a snap. I truly belive that this will transform your budding site. Keep it going...

Peppergal! Got some news. They both have the same effect! Put i think I'll stick to _parent as that is what I have used throughout my whole site!

By the way, I finsihed all the centering! Got rid of it from the most visible parts of my webiste. Pages with just one line centering were ignored as they would take up too much of my time :(

What else can i improve?

RE: Your feedback please - 5/9/2004 14:03:09
I think I'll step in if I may as I think you are not understanding how the target attribute works.

The purpose of TARGET is to control where the new document will be displayed when a visitor follows a link. Most of the time, clicking on a link simply loads a new document in the same window.

However, with TARGET, you can:

1 Have the linked document open in a new window,.

2. When using frames, have it open in another frame.

(You can target a frame by a name you have assigned it.)

There four predefined values, which can be used as if certain windows (and frames) already have names.

"_blank"
"_parent"
"_self"
"_top"

Note that each of predefined names starts with an underscore ("_"). Note also that they must be in all
lower-case letters.

"_blank" opens the new document in a new window. It is not supported in any of the strict versions of html or xhtml.

"_parent" is used in the situation where a frameset file is nested inside another frameset file. A link in one of the inner frameset documents which uses "_parent" will load the new document where the inner frameset file had been. For this reason many people think of it a s atype of "framebuster."

Clearly therefore if the current document's frameset file does not have any "parent", then "_parent" will work in the same manner as "_top": the new document is loaded in the full window.

(If "_parent" does not work in the way you expect it is probably because you have it in a frameset which is nested inside another framset in the same frameset file. )

"_self" puts the new document in the same window and frame as the current document. "_self" IOW it works as though you had not used TARGET at all.

"_top" loads the linked document in the topmost frame... IOW the new page fills the entire window.

Finally there is "window name"

"window name" is used to put the linked document in a frame or window other than the frame/window from which you have linked it.

I do understand this. The thing is, one front page, the predefined target is _parent and NOT _top which is kinda funny

They both have the same effect however :)

Yes in your particular circumstances they would :-) The purpose of giving that info was to clarify not only for you but for anybody else coming along afterwards who didn't know or was hazy on the details :-)
