ymv13 -> Backing up Web (5/4/2004 15:56:11)

I always backup my web by publishing it to my C drive. I then copy the backup to CD.

If I was to lose all data from my PC, would the copied back up on CD be sufficient to replace the web on my PC[sm=ask.gif]

I've heard that you should always 'publish' a backup & I have tried to do this, but when I select the CD Rom drive as the publishing destination, I get a message saying I do not have access as I do not have admin rights. I am the administrator and only user of my PC so I don't understand why this should happen unless publishing to a CD is a no no.

Anyone got any thoughts?

I'm using Windows XP Home & Frontpage 2002.

Yve

Do you have a program (like Roxio) that can format the CD for "drag 'n drop" ?

That's how I have always been able to do it... (Publish to a CD, that is)

Otherwise, try compressing the whole web into a zip file, then save that to your CD... sometimes zipping it will keep Front Page from realizing that it's been moved or copied...

Hi Yve,

I've never had success actually publishing to CD. I did manage to pull out some of my last remaining hairs, however.

What works easiest for me is to open My Webs in windows explorer view and copy the entire folder and paste it onto my CD.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm glad it's not just me that hasn't been able to publish to CD. At least I'm not going mad[:)]

Will try your suggestions next time I have 10 minutes to spare.
