Frontpage 2002 Extensions with IIS 5.0 - 5/12/2004 22:45:46
Ok, I have a detailed question, I hope someone can help me. First I have created two websites one using frontpage 2002, and the other using swishmax. The way my site is basically set up is that you have a basic flash intro then the option to go into the flash site or the non-flash site. I created both of these on my home computer and and I am then copying the files and loading them on to my server which I maintain. Both are running Xp Pro but only the server has the 2002 server extensions installed along with IIS 5.1. The files I am copying are the entire web that is created by frontpage and all the files whithin the web. For the flash files the macro and the html files are transfered as well. For reference the intro is the index.html then the flash site is index 2.html and the frontpage site is index3.htm . All these files are subsequntly being installed in the inetpub/wwwroot file and are succecfully loaded onto the server. At that point I turn on the server and check the server extensions, then one of two things happen. 1 I am able to calculate and configure the server extensions from within the localhost setting's and am able to use the extensions. The problem is once the extensions are running my frontpage site losses the logo the hyperlink bars and changes the background color. It does seem to keep the general writing and the pictures within the main body though. The extensions at that time do work and I am able to receive information via inforeq.htm, but my flash site will not load correctly at all, basically just consistently restarting itself over and over. Now the majority of the time I transfer the files to wwwroot and turn on IIS and try to configure the server extensions and I receive this error Unable to create a web at the URL "/" because FrontPage information was unexpectedly encountered beneath the corresponding directory ("C:\SERVER BACKUP\SERVER INFO\Inetpub\wwwroot\"). If you are certain that there is no FrontPage web at "C:\SERVER BACKUP\SERVER INFO\Inetpub\wwwroot\horizon", you should delete the file "C:\SERVER BACKUP\SERVER INFO\Inetpub\wwwroot\horizon\_vti_pvt\services.cnf" or rename it to "services.org". When I change the services to .org then I obviously cannot use the frontpage extensions. But both sites work and by work my flash site loads properly and my frontpage site shows the correct background color, logo, hyperlinks, and buttons. I have gone round and round with this and now becoming quite frusterated with this whole process. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. I really need to get this site functional in the next few days if at all possible. Thanks Again Regards

You're copying? Why don't you use the Publish feature? It sounds like you might be copying more than you need to, and some of the server information from the dev server is tripping up the prod server.

C:\SERVER BACKUP\SERVER INFO\Inetpub\wwwroot\ That is the directory I use for my inetpub file folder, otherwise it would normally be C:\inetpub\wwwroot. The reason I get this message is because the extensions are not running. I am confused about the error itself (along with many other things). In addition I cannot publish via http because the server extensions are not working (at this time) and I have set up explicite firewall rules for any FTP so that woulb be out of the questions. Thanks Though Regards

I'm a little unclear, maybe Richard can help me out... You might consider the tried and true method. First, make sure you have backups of everything. Start the server with Frontpage extensions running Create a new Frontpage web on the server Publish your Frontpage web to the site that you created on the server (i.e. http://localhost/website) now create the swish intro page, import and configure the swish, and configure the two entrance pages. You can either author against the server (server based) or on disk, making sure to publish the web, not copy

Thanks for the replies. I unfortuantley still have the problem with my html and flash site, ie flash not loading and html background and buttons not loading. I published the files to http://localhost/website and by website frontpage automatically calls this my port number that I am using. The way my server is set up my firewall is port 80 and my server is a different port number. I really do not know what else to do???
