Critique my site please - 5/14/2004 17:33:08
Hi this is my first site, i have made, and is for my local cricket team... I'd like to know what you all think and how I can improve upon it. Not all of the links work, and not all of the pages are finished, but you should get the idea of it.

Thanks

Try adding some pictures on the front page that deal with Cricket.

The template looks ok, but seems a little bit too plain for my taste. I like the way the header is setup, but I think the navigation could use some work.

I would try to implement something like Cell Background Color Change into the navigation so it looks better.

ON the right hand side, Latest News, should be Centered, maybe black, and definately bold. Remove the table border that is around:
Latest News
Mark Collins PB

I really think it drains your eyes when you look at it.

Only other thing I could suggest is have the right column be 100% in height so it takes up the entire height of the page, just like the left side.

It's a cricket club. Cricket makes me think Grass and Whites and red balls. I'd go with those colours.

Front page needs a photo to liven it up.

I'm assuming the other pages aren't finished as the gallery and the links don't work.

Good start.

I agree that it needs a picture to liven it up a bit. Just do a google image search on the word "cricket" to give yourself some ideas.

Also the table on the right (latest results) could do with some cell padding. It always looks nicer if the words aren't right up against the edge.

I think JB has a point about the colour scheme, it doesn't say "Cricket " to me when I look at it, it's not exciting enough.

Guaranteed to put me to sleep but luckily, the web site doesn't seem to have the same effect.

Colour wise, I'm thinking of the ideal of cricket. Sunshine, bat on ball, men in whites, nice green pitch. Maybe a grass effect side bar, or willow symbolising the bat.

If we went with the reality then he'd have dirty greys and puddles

i agree with everyone else - not bad just nees a little "life" photos and maybe different color scheme..colored text etc.
As an American, I naturally prefer baseball but a sport that includes post-game drinking cant be all bad.

Post game drinking! Cricket.... you drink all the way through the game. That's what makes it bearable. :)

Such heresy from an Englishman,:), is this why you are exiled in Finland?

We obviously need to send out more missionaries to save you poor misguided people from this game that is even more boring than cricket.

no heresy! i just think it's boring, but it's very english so we have to keep it!
at least we (English) have proper sports, it's those poor Americans who need the sports missionaries; they have very few real sports. basketball could be one
nascar? baseball (well not too bad), american football?... :) :)

then again in finland we have 'stick-walking' not exactly sport as such, it's a bit like skiing but with only the sticks...

oh yes re: site - I think it could do with a picture, say someone playing cricket? that sort of lazy sunday afternoon in the sunshine feeling.

that name has bugged me for years. duh, everyone else calls SOCCER "football." Go figure.

Please, no sports missionaries. We have enough sports as it is and it sucks that a professional "athlete" makes gobs more money than a real hero, like a firefighter, police officer, or high school teacher. Grrr...

Re: the topic at hand:

please remove the period at the end of your title, and I agree with the group; the color scheme does not work....and yes, get some pictures on there.
