Dynamically Generated Website - 5/15/2004 20:37:18
We have a new business and was wondering what we could expect to pay for a webdesigner to create a database driven dynamically generated website. We would need features like customer passwords, shopping card, on-line order form, possibly an archive, search, etc. Also where do we begin looking for a reputable webdesigner and could create this kind of website and market our site as well? The site does not have to be on FrontPage. Thanks. Pat

Hi Pat, A little more detail would be needed to even figure a ballpark... such as completely custom or template, how many pages, how many products, ongoing seo, competitiveness of kw's, do you have or can you supply most of the rough copy, product pictures and descriptions or does it all fall on the developer? There's plenty of good people here to choose from. Sorry I could be more specific Good luck

Pat, Nobody will be able to give you an accurate estimate without more details. The price will vary widely depending on the skill of the person/team you hire. Most people I know would not touch a site like yours for less than $5000 (at this price you would write all content and already have a design completed). Of course, you can also find webmasters willing to do it for much less... the adage is never more true in that you-get-what-you-pay-for. EDIT - spelling

Hi, I once created a dynamic Flash driven website using asp and an access database and it was only a few visible pages and it was built for about $18,000 - ofcourse the site was dial-up friendly and no shopping cart. I'll give you a hint - purchase a shopping cart like storefront.net and hire someone to implement it for you, why spend money re-creating the wheel, and if you do spend the money - trust me - it wouldn't be worth it, cause these things get hacked - and it would take years to test and FULLY secure a complicated system with only 1 person working around the clock. Also a lot of people never have these things in mind, and they are: - The up keep of the site... How much $ per year? - The marketing of the site... How much effort / money per year? (cause website don't work on their own, you need to work them in order for them to be successful, and you need to work them hard) I have a few site that i continually work on a weekly basis, it would probably cost me over 25,000 per year to work all my sites the way they need to be worked.
