Hey all. Our radio station streams a couple of our local sportstalk shows (from 9a til 1p and 4p til 6p central time) and I've got a problem with them. Both realplayer and windows media are streaming fine in ie, but will not work in mozilla. could someone take a look and see if they can see what I've done wrong? I'm sure it's something silly! Hey Gayle Mozilla browsers need the added extras to be installed, multimedia plugins mainly, also, you may need to embed it within a page, that also requires plugins. HTH Dan

I've tried it on a couple of machines with mozilla that, theoretically (sp?), have the plugins. I have no clue why it isn't working.

I'm having a similar problem. It has to be the plug-ins but I can't figure out what's missing. I've tried downloading new ones but no difference.

Oh good, I'm glad I'm not the only one! Now if I could just figure out what I'm doing wrong. I wouldn't think there would be anything different in the coding for mozilla than for ie, but it isn't working. I've got the embedded players working fine in ie, so I'm going with that for now, but I'd like to be able to get it to work everywhere! Gayle

When you install Shockwave etc, the routine asks you which browsers you want to use and then sets the plug-ins. I thought, Ohhhh well that's simple then, re-install Media player! Nope! Still doesn't work. So I went hunting and found this.... http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/faqs/firefox-windows.html#issues-wmp9 Haven't tried it yet. Need a stiff drink first. [;)]

Ha! Got it sussed. It's down to your host. The files I was streaming were on a free host and just popped up as straight text when I clicked on the m3u link. I've moved one onto my paid host and it now works. Seems the free host don't set the MIME types. IE6 (as per usual) allows it to play as a non-standard type whereas all the other browsers won't. OK, so now I have to move all my sound and video files to the paid host. See you all sometime next month. [:'(]

Now hold it! That can't be right. My stuff is all working OK on the paid host but I can hear your radio streaming too! I'm assuming you haven't moved anything or changed your MIME types yet? Could be that you need to follow the first suggestion above, ie. the registry edits and that'll work for you. I seem to have fixed two problems. I also seem to be talking to myself. [&:]

To put all of the above into plain English............. try these in order............... Fix 1. Back up your registry Start>Run> type regedit Find the Folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\ShimInclusionList\ Right click on the folder and select New>Key Add the following new keys (leave default settings) MOZILLA.EXE PHOENIX.EXE MOZILLAFIREBIRD.EXE FIREFOX.EXE Close the registry and reboot Try your station. If it doesn't work, then...... Fix 2. Check the MIME types on your host server to make sure they're not set to default which is plain text. For mp3 files they need to be set to mpegurl.

[sm=icon_redface.gif][sm=icon_redface.gif][sm=icon_redface.gif] Awwww shucks! It had to be done. It was driving me nuts as I couldn't see my own site without firing up IE. I wasn't the only one. Dan couldn't see it through Firefox either. All sorted now but it's a pain to have to do that especially if you don't understand registry editing. Microsoft are going to have to sort it out in Media Player. Hmmmmmm. Fat chance..................

They only have to sort it out if we all start using Real or WinAMP instead... as long as 90% of the world still uses their product they have no incentive to improve it... [&:]

jaybee, I appreciate the help. I'll try that this afternoon (if I can find the time!). I'm trying to get the message board I'm going to use up and running, with a style that sort of blends with my site. We'll see how that goes! I'm using phpbb, and it seems easy enough, but I'm not the brightest bulb in the box sometimes! [;)] Gayle

I did try it that afternoon, it's just been a little hectic (cleaning a virus off our common computer, formatting and reinstalling my bosses computer, doing remote broadcasts, etc...). Editing the registry got media player working in my mozilla browser, but real player still isn't working. I haven't had any complaints (that I know of) since I rolled the new site on Tuesday afternoon, so apparently no one but me is using Mozilla! I'm still working on a solution to getting real player to work in mozilla, but it isn't a critical at this point. My biggest fear was that media player wasn't working for anyone, and most of the people who listen to our stream, tend to listen in media player (they work at companies and universities that don't let them download anything, including real player). I'll let you know if I find a solution to the real player problem, and thanks again for your help! Gayle

Try downloading the latest version of RP and installing. When I originally put it on the machine I didn't have any Mozzys installed. On reinstall RP popped up with a box asking which browsers I wanted to associate it with and then gave me a list of what was on my machine. RP is now working fine in Firefox.

That would be what I did after I installed Mozilla. But then, I did that with media player too, and it wasn't working. I'll try that at work today, in between producing commercials, remotes, fixing computers, etc., etc., ...... Gayle

BTW - If you have multiple user accounts, you only need to log out, log into anther account, log out, and log back into yours to make the successful alterations.
