Shoppng Cart Reccommedations? - 5/20/2004 15:17:54
Hi all,

I have been using and recommending Lagarde's Store Front products for a few years. But it is now time to evaluate other shopping carts again.

What would you good folk recommend?

I would imagine there are some really nice applications out there, that does not cost a bunch. As well as some feature heavy products that larger clients may use.

Whatcha' like?:):) Why? Learning curve to empliment?

Thanks,
Barry

I have not done one yet either and have a few requests so I am interested in this. May I add, what is needed to set one up? just special shopping cart software? anything else? and what about templates?
Thanks

Depends what your host is running.

I use cubecart which is PHP based. It's free if you don't mind a tiny copyright right at the very bottom of the page, or $59 if you want to remove it.

I found it really easy to set up. The only thing that took the time was fiddling with the graphics as I set up my own skin to match the site.

Comes with a load of payment gateways including Paypal (and Nochex for us Brits).

[Edit] either my fingers or my brain has forgotten how to spell. :)

Take a look at www.ecommercetemplates.com. ASP and PHP versions. They are template driven, but they offer a "generic" version you can add to any site. PayPal only version for $50 and full blown version for just over $100. You get free upgrades, customer log in for order status and optional pricing discount, coupon codes and discounts, terms & conditions accpetance on check out and more!

I have done six sites with these and they are great!

Is it for ASP or PHP?

Any idea of a budget range for the software?

I will have to echo what Jaybee said about CubeCart. I just installed it for a client and it is very nice. The only problem w/ CubeCart as opposed to OScommerce, the other popular PHP/MySQL open source solution is that there isn't any real support for CubeCart right now.

I have emailed the company and tried to get them to do some mods for me and haven't gotten the first response from them and their support forum has been down for a while, but after testing it for a couple of weeks now it is by far the best I have seen.

Thanks,

I've been looking at www.SecureNetShop.com. I email queries to several sites using the cart, received perhaps 8 responses and not a single negative. Zip, nada...not customer service, not setup, not bugs...everyone liked/loved it, many had tried several other carts, some were programmers. The results were sooo positive I thought I was being scammed by the company propaganda. I think I just might have to give it a try.
Regards, Scotty

Cotton,

They're moving the whole shebang to a new host and I think they're having a few problems. If your query isn't too rocket sciencey I'll try and help.

Sorrta Ditto, I was going to write one for Karen, until her client went elsewhere, but I write custom ones everytime. Using ASP, not everyone wants the same features. Plus, it's easier to integrate when it's a home made job, you know where everything is:)

I have to agree with Cooper on this. I have about 10 sites using these templates & they do work great. Vince & Andy are always making improvements & they get better all the time!!!

Thanks for the suggestions Erin and Cooper, I will look into these more closely later. Jaybee I am appreciative of your willingness to help, here is my scenario.

My client has a unique tax code that applies to in-state purchases only. It is setup like this:

quote:

Sales tax rates:
7.25% on the first $2500
6.0% after $2500.
**This only applies to arkansas residents, everyone else is excluded.

I know this is the php code that we need to drop in to handle this conversion, but I have no idea where to put it in at.

(float) $price=2600.00;

function tax($price)
{

(float) $perc=7.25;
(float) $perc2=6.00;
(float) $high=2500.00;

if($price<=2500)
{
$perc=$perc+100;
$perc2=$perc2+100;

$price=round((($price*$perc)/100), 2);
return $price;
}
else
{
$price2=round((($high*$perc)/100), 2);
$price3=$price-$high;
$price3=round((($price3*$perc2)/100), 2);
$price=$price2+$price3+$price;
return $price;
}
}

$price=tax($price);
echo $price;

?>

Do you know where it might go?

The only problem is that it might not be online right now as they are adding products.

Thanks Again for your help.

Leave it with me Cotton. I'm out tonight and working all day tomorrow (seemed like a good idea at the time :)) but I'll take a look at it ASAP.

Cotton, just dashed back in quickly, all the processing and send to payment gateway goes on in order.php. Have a look in there. I didn't see any calls to other routines but I may have missed it.

Back the whole lot up before you make any changes. I'll have a more detailed hunt around tomorrow if that doesn't help.

Barry, Barry, you really must try www.ecommercetemplates.com !!!

After much deliberation I made the switch a couple of months ago from Storefront to these guys. After having built about 5 Storefront sites I was very disgruntled. I have nothing but praise for ecommercetemplates' product. Easy, straightforward set up, completely hassle free... unlike Storefront. Also lots of free updates and fabulous fast support from the developers and the community.

Affordable and very customizable. I'm thrilled I discovered them, thanks to a thread I found here that Katherine had replied to.

Now, I only wish I could convince my SF clients to convert... :)

I am an oscommerce man and its all about the mods.

I tend to use a two part site with resources around the front then a shop as a sub directory.
Here are a couple of examples:

My latest one in still in the early stages and 6 languages is such a pain:
