Corporate Data? - 5/21/2004 12:36:27
What are the typical methods of supplying corporate internal database information over the web? For instance, I have a company that wants to start having open orders, inventory information, etc available over the internet. Some would be used through a secure login for employees to maintain the data and some would be viewed by customers with open orders and such. If this all comes from their internal servers, do you typically design a site and have to set them up as hosting their own site? I would think you wouldn't want to move the db to a third party provider. I'm new in this area and was just curious how the industry is handling these situations and what hosting options are typically utilized for these types of sites. Thanks for any input! Randy

What I worked on with my last company was we setup an SQL server that only had access via certain people/processes/ports. That way we maintained the DB internal or external and customers could place orders. There are applications and server setups already written this way. I would parallel this to a shopping cart that uses a SQL DB as an example. Take care, Brian
