There are a couple of things to keep in mind using the scenario you're talking about. First, in order to utilize certain aspects of FP such as forms, you must publish to a server with properly configured FP extensions just as Bobby mentioned. They simply won't work otherwise, so make certain of those extensions.
Second, although it is entirely possible to let other people upload files via FTP to a FP web, it is not recommended as the simple process of logging in and transferring via FTP can corrupt or otherwise disable some or all of the FP extensions. Bobby claims to have used FTP on FP sites in the past with no problems, and quite frankly, so have I. Many times. Just be forewarned, the practice is not considered "safe".
